The Class A boys basketball all-state first team offers a little bit of everything.

From dynamic guards, an athletic wing and a versatile forward, the honor squad boasts a number of players with different skill sets.

The all-state first team includes Sioux Falls Christian senior Griffen Goodbary, Pine Ridge junior Marvin Richard III, Hamlin senior Easton Neuendorf, Rapid City Christian senior Benson Kieffer, Dakota Valley senior Luke Bruns and Sioux Falls Christian sophomore Brant Wassenaar. The all-state teams were selected by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association.

Goodbary and Wassenaar powered Sioux Falls Christian to its first state championship since 2021, after back-to-back runner-up finishes in ‘23 and ‘24.

Goodbary is the Class A boys basketball player of the year, after receiving the most all-state votes in the class.

A 6-foot-11 senior forward, Goodbary is making his second straight all-state first-team selection. He also repeated as the Gatorade South Dakota boys basketball player of the year.

This season, Goodbary averaged 18 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. He added 36 blocked shots. Goodbary powered Sioux Falls Christian to a 61-51 win over Hamlin in the state title game, finishing with 32 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots.

A future South Dakota State University Jackrabbit, Goodbary finished his career with 1,146 points, 450 rebounds, 181 assists and 45 steals.

“Grif is probably a once-in-lifetime type player because of his skill set and his size,” said Sioux Falls Christian coach Mike Schouten. “Very versatile, a great leader.”

A 6-foot-5 bouncy wing, Wassenaar is making his first all-state selection. The sophomore is the youngest player on the first team. Wassenaar tallied 14.2 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game this season.

“Brant is a phenomenal athlete with elite basketball skills,” Schouten said. “His best is yet to come.”

Richard III averaged 34.7 points, six rebounds and 3.8 assists per game this season. He had six games with 40 or more points, including a Class A boys basketball record 62-point performance. Richard III also set the Lakota Nation Invitational boys basketball single-game record (57). He nailed 87 3-pointers and totaled 76 steals on defense.

Richard III has received scholarship offers from the University of South Dakota and Northern State University.

A 5-foot-11 senior guard, Neuendorf is making his second straight all-state first-team selection. He was a third-team honoree in 2023. An electric point guard, Neuendorf averaged 16.4 points, 6.9 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game this season. He added 50 steals on defense and hit 62 3-pointers this season.

He also set the single-season 3-point percentage record at a 40.6% clip.

Kieffer will play college basketball at Black Hills State University.

“Benson is undoubtedly one of the most competitive kids I've ever coached,” Rapid City Christian coach Kyle Courtney said. “He plays the game with such tenaciousness and fire. His leadership, toughness, and will to win have left an incredible mark on our program. He has been a three-year starter as well as a three-year team captain for us and has been an incredible leader. He helped lead our program to new heights with back-to-back state tournament appearances. He will go down in history as one of the best players to ever wear the Comet uniform.”

A 6-foot-2 senior guard, Bruns was a second-team all-state selection in 2024. This season, Bruns totaled 22.4 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Bruns finished his career with 1,060 points.

“Luke filled the stat sheet for us and did so many things this year, and more importantly really stepped up his leadership and did everything we asked of him,” Dakota Valley coach Jason Kleis said. “He wrapped up his career as the eighth all-time leading scorer in DV history, and was a four-year varsity player on teams that went 88-12. We are proud of him and know great things lie ahead for him.”
