SPEARFISH — Sioux Falls Christian’s 6-feet-2 sophomore Leslie Setzer was a powerful presence during Thursday’s 58-39 win over Mount Vernon/Plankinton.

Four players reached double figure scoring for the top seeded Chargers but Setzer stood out with seven points, eight rebounds and two blocked shots.

The official scoring sheet had Setzer with just two blocks, but she altered many MVP shots during a dominant second quarter run.

Setzer is new to the scene at Sioux Falls Christian, having played her freshman season at Harrisburg.

Setzer is originally from North Carolina. Her father John Setzer played football at Winston-Salem State and finished his senior season with 42 tackles, two interceptions and nine pass break-ups.

Setzer was invited to the Montreal Allouettes camp of the Canadian Football League. After bouncing around the CFL and several other professional leagues Setzer ended up in Sioux Falls where he played with the Sioux Falls Storm.

“We got here to South Dakota and Sioux Falls and really liked it,” Setzer said. “We liked the coaches and the environment of basketball at Christian so all of our kids are there now.”

Setzer said his daughter has aspirations of playing Division I basketball and has already been contacted by several schools.
