VERMILLION — Track teams across South Dakota saw their first action as the larger schools competed on March 17. 

Sioux Falls Christian’s Paul Hoekman  won the shot put at Monday’s Dan Lennon Invitational. The senior won the shot put with a throw of 63-11. 

The Harrisburg boys had a strong showing as Jace Thiesse won the 60-meter dash (:6.98) and Griffin Smith won the 800-meter run (2:00.81). The Tigers also picked up wins in the 800-meter relay, 1,600-meter sprint medley relay and Nick Tucker won the long jump (20-07). 

In girls action, Harrisburg had two field event winners with Jayaunna Stroh winning the high jump (5-02) and Aesia Aldridge the triple jump (34-10). 

Several outstanding times in the girls longer races as Harrisburg’s Brianna Reilly won the 800-meter run (2:20.98), Dakota Valley’s Alex McCullough the 1,600-meter run (5:08.80) and Harrisburg’s Hannah Genrich the 3,200-meter run.
