MITCHELL — The Sioux Falls Flying Squirrels made history on Sunday.

Playing in their first-ever title game, the Squirrels used a three-run seventh inning to pick up a 4-3 win over Brookings for the Class A championship Sunday at Cadwell Park. 

Sioux Falls erased a 3-0 deficit with four unanswered runs, including three runs in the seventh to spark the comeback. 

MVP Connor Hurley led Sioux Falls on the mound, giving up zero runs on one hit in 3 â…” innings, while striking out three. Stuart Baruth started the game for Sioux Falls, allowing three runs on six hits in 5 â…“ innings, while striking out one.

Zach Dibble’s two-run double evened the score at 3-3, while Lucas Wilber’s RBI single gave Sioux Falls a one-run lead. 

Sioux Falls reliever JaColby Anderson threw two scoreless relief innings to shut the door on Brookings. 

Wilber led Sioux Falls at the plate, going 3-for-4, while Damon Baruth tallied two hits. Dylan Ades had one hit. Trevor Hurley added one RBI apiece.

Tyler Kreutner took the loss for Brookings, pitching six innings and surrendering four runs on seven hits, with one strikeout.

Brookings tallied seven hits on the day, with Chase McDaniel and Noel Burgos leading with two hits apiece. Kreutner, Jared Tschetter, and Austin Koenig each added one hit. Kreutner led with two RBI and Burgos added one RBI.

T.J. Miller, of the Sioux Falls Hops, was named the Class A batting champion after hitting .583. The Black Hills A’s won the Class A sportsmanship award.
