Sioux Falls Lincoln leads Class 11AAA all-state selections

State champion Sioux Falls Lincoln landed 10 players on the Class 11AAA all-state team, which was selected by the South Dakota Football Coaches Association.

Sioux Falls Lincoln, which defeated Sioux Falls O’Gorman 31-7 in the state championship, placed Tate Schafer, Dawson Siem, Dreavin Hodge, Jack Smith, Adam Behrend, Tim Nunn, Isaac Javorski, Brycen Mitchell, Luke Krempges and Sawyer Tolk on the all-state team. 

Sioux Falls O’Gorman placed Hayden Groos, Ryland Satter, Maverick Jones, Lathan Wilcox, Sullivan Schlimgen and Henry Theobald on the all-state squad. 


Here is the complete Class 11AAA all-state team:

QUARTERBACK: Tate Schafer, Sr., Lincoln, (6-0, 190) 

Schafer broke multiple passing records at Lincoln, which won its first state championship since 2014. For his career, Schafer set Class 11AAA records in passing yards (8,102), passing touchdowns (97) and completions (618). He also set Class 11AAA season records in passing yards (3,108) and touchdowns (42). Schafer will play college football at the University of Sioux Falls. 


QUARTERBACK: Hayden Groos, Sr., O’Gorman, (6-0, 185)

Groos led the Knights to a runner-up finish after throwing for 2,565 yards and 30 touchdowns, while rushing for two more touchdowns. Groos logged 2,730 passing yards and 31 passing touchdowns during his career. 


TE/FULLBACK/H-BACK: Rylan Satter, Sr., O’Gorman, (6-0, 205)

Satter was a key player out of the backfield for the Knights. He logged 202 rushing yards and 689 receiving yards, while scoring 14 touchdown receptions. He recorded 2,307 receiving yards and 65 touchdown catches in his career. He added 286 rushing yards. Satter will play college football at North Dakota State. 


TE/FULLBACK/H-BACK: Dawson Siem, Sr., Lincoln, (6-0, 215)

Siem powered the Cavaliers with 379 receiving yards on 30 receptions and hauled in five touchdown catches. “Dawson not only caught the ball but was an integral piece of our run game,” Lincoln coach Jared Fredenburg said. “We moved him in and out of the box.”


TE/FULLBACK/H-BACK: Tayden Nave, Sr., Roosevelt (6-2, 195)

Nave led the Rough Riders with 71 tackles, two fumble recoveries and one interception on defense. He was the leading tackler the past two seasons. Nave was an all-conference performer and team captain. 


RUNNING BACK: Dreavin Hodge, Sr., Lincoln (5-11, 190)

Hodge was a dynamic playmaker for the Patriots. Hodge, who will play college football at the University of South Dakota, finished with 589 rushing yards on 88 carries and scored nine touchdowns this season. He averaged 6.7 yards per carry.

RUNNING BACK: Maverick Jones, Sr., O’Gorman (5-11, 160)

Jones capped off a stellar career for the Knights. He finished this season with 1,243 rushing yards on 168 carries and 23 touchdowns, while he had 362 receiving yards. He is O’Gorman’s career rushing leader (3,106) and holds the single-game rushing record (268).


RUNNING BACK: Jaxsen Grevengoed, Sr., Roosevelt (5-10, 190)

Grevengoed posted 1,074 rushing yards on 111 carries and scored nine touchdowns for the Rough Riders. He added 431 receiving yards on 34 carries and scored five touchdown receptions. 


WIDE RECEIVER: Jack Smith, Sr., Lincoln (6-0, 190)

Smith was a threat to score from anywhere on the field. The future Jackrabbit logged 66 receptions for 1,118 yards and caught 21 touchdown passes. For this career, he finished with 3,189 yards receiving and hauled in 43 touchdown passes. The speedster holds many school and Class 11AAA records, including career receiving yards, career receiving touchdowns and career receptions. 


WIDE RECEIVER: Tytan Tryon, Sr., Harrisburg, (6-3, 180)

Tryon was a big target and dynamic weapon for the Tigers. Tryon posted 1,020 receiving yards on 59 receptions and hauled in 14 touchdowns. For his career, he logged 143 receptions for 2,472 yards and 36 touchdowns. “One of the most explosive WRs in the state the last two seasons,” Harrisburg coach Brandon White said. “Just makes plays, great player and great human being.”


WIDE RECEIVER: Max Carlson, Sr., Harrisburg (6-1, 190)

Carlson was a versatile weapon for the Tigers. He logged 54 receptions for 820 yards and eight touchdowns, while adding 63 catches for 366 yards and eight more scores. For his career, he finished with 117 receptions for 1,622 yards and 15 touchdowns. He added 680 rushing yards on 108 carries and scored 18 more scores. “Max is a swiss army knife,” Harrisburg coach Brandon White said. “He wants the ball in his hands when the game is on the line. Great player and great kid.”


OFFENSIVE LINE: Navarro Schunke, Sr., Brandon Valley (6-5, 300)

Schunke helped pave the way for Brandon Valley’s offensive attack. The future Kansas State University offensive lineman helped the Lynx rush for 1,682 yards and passed for 1,552 yards. They rushed for 27 touchdowns and passed for 16 more scores. Schunke, who is a multiple time Class A state wrestling heavyweight champion, picked the Wildcats over scholarship offers from Auburn and Tennessee, among others. 


OFFENSIVE LINE: Hudson Parliament, Soph., Brandon Valley (6-4, 275)

Parliament was part of Brandon Valley’s dominant offensive line. He helped the team rush for 1,682 yards and passed for 1,552 yards. They rushed for 27 touchdowns and passed for 16 more scores. “Genuine beast,” Brandon Valley coach Matthew Christensen said. “Can really run and pull and do it all. Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois are all over him already.”


OFFENSIVE LINE: Adam Behrend, Sr., Lincoln (6-4, 295)

Behrend anchored Lincoln at the line of scrimmage. The team rushed for 1,933 yards and 32 touchdowns, while passing for 2,632 yards. Behrend was a three-year starter and Lincoln coach Jared Fredenburg said he was the team’s best offensive lineman. “He was 315 pounds last winter,” Fredenburg said. “He dedicated himself to weightroom-nutrition and lost 20 pounds of bad weight. Was a beast pulling on our GT.”


OFFENSIVE LINE: Tim Nunn, Sr., Lincoln (6-4, 260)

Nunn helped the Patriots for 1,933 yds with 32 touchdowns and passed for 2,632 yds, while he protected Lincoln QB Tate Schafer’s blindside. Nunn was a three-year starter and Lincoln coach Jared Fredenburg said he dedicated himself in the offseason. 

“Tim was our most improved up front,” Fredenburg said. “Had a disappointing junior year. Lost weight and was down to 230. Worked his butt off to get back up to 255-260 with muscle. Super coachable.”


OFFENSIVE LINE: Thomas Martian, Sr., Stevens (6-4, 275)

Martian was a four-year varsity player and three-year starter. He logged 14 pancake blocks and gave up only two sacks this season. He holds a preferred walk-on offer from South Dakota State, while he has scholarship offers from Northern State, University of Sioux Falls and Wayne State College. 


OFFENSIVE LINE: Lathan Wilcox, Sr., O’Gorman (6-3, 220)

Wilcox played left tackle for the Knights and helped them reach the Class 11AAA state championship. 


ATHLETE: Landon Dulaney, Jr., Brandon Valley (6-1, 175)

Dulaney was a dynamic playmaker for the Lynx. He finished with 34 catches for 633 receiving yards and caught seven touchdowns. He added two kickoff returns for scores and a punt return for a touchdown. He is also a sprinter on the track and field team. 

“Phenomenal athlete,” Brandon Valley coach Matthew Christensen said. “Hawkeyes, Huskers, Cyclones all over him. Game changer.”


ATHLETE: Rylan Aman, Sr., Jefferson (6-0, 185)

Aman was a force for the Cavaliers. From his linebacker position, he logged 58 tackles (24 solo), 10 tackles for loss and four sacks. He returned a fumble for a touchdown and handled kicking duties for Jefferson. 


ATHLETE: Issac Jarovski, Sr., Lincoln (6-0, 175)

Jarovski was another weapon for the Patriots’ explosive offensive attack. He finished the season with 57 receptions for 653 yards and 11 touchdowns. He finished his career with 152 catches for 1,832 yards and 22 touchdowns. The future University of Sioux Falls Cougar ranks third on Lincoln’s all-time career receptions list, while he’s fourth in career receiving yards and career touchdowns.


ATHLETE: Gideon Waldrop, Sr., Rapid City Central (6-1, 220)

Waldrop was a dominant linebacker for the Cobblers. He finished the season with 160 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and one sack. Waldrop has received scholarship offers from Northern State University and Black Hills State University, while also being recruited by the University of South Dakota. “Gideon was not only the heart and soul of our defense, but also of our team,” Rapid City Central coach Brandon Colpitts said. “He plays with a relentless motor and is willing to do whatever it takes to be great. He was also the leader of our team and is a kid that seeks to do the right thing all the time.”


DEFENSIVE LINE: Thomas Heiberger, Sr., Jefferson (6-4, 215)

Heiberger powered Jefferson’s defensive unit, finishing with 35 tackles (5 tackles for loss), four sacks and one interception. He added three touchdowns on offense. He will play college football at Division I Wisconsin. “Exceptional athlete and football player,” Jefferson coach Vincent Benedetto said. “A difference maker for us on O and D.”


DEFENSIVE LINE: Thomas Risty, Sr., Brandon Valley (6-2, 235)

Risty led the Lynx with 35 tackles (eight tackles for loss) and eight sacks. He was a three-year starter and all-conference performer. 

Best weight room kid we've ever had, which is saying a lot,” Brandon Valley coach Matthew Christensen said. “Captain. Great guy and impactful player. Coach's kid in the best way possible. Earned it all and more.”


DEFENSIVE LINE: Brycen Mitchell, Sr., Lincoln (6-0, 245)

Mitchell was a disruptive force for the state champs. He finished with 52 tackles (eight tackles for loss) and 1.5 sacks. He was an all-conference performer. 

“Brycen was our second leading tackler from the DE position,” Lincoln coach Jared Fredenburg said. “He lives in the backfield.”


DEFENSIVE LINE: Luke Krempges, Jr., Lincoln (6-4, 230)

Krempges recorded 29 tackles (four tackles for loss) and four sacks for Lincoln. The defensive end was the Outstanding Lineman in the Class 11AAA state championship game. 


DEFENSIVE LINE: Max Elrod, Sr., Harrisburg (6-1, 250)

Elrod led the Tigers with 60 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, six sacks and a pick-six. “Max is very explosive,” Harrisburg coach Brandon White said. “Creates a ton of havoc for OL.”


LINEBACKER: Caden Dowd, Sr., Brandon Valley (5-11, 215)

Dowd anchored Brandon Valley’s defense, finishing with six sacks, 37 tackles and two forced fumbles. For his career, he logged 11 sacks, 70 tackles and three forced fumbles. “Tough, relentless, hitter, amazing improvement from junior year,” Brandon Valley coach Matthew Christensen said.


LINEBACKER: Gunnar Swift, Sr., Brandon Valley (6-1, 215)

Swift was a consistent performer for the Lynx, recording 100 tackles, four sacks and five forced fumbles for the Lynx. “Makes big plays at critical moments, finds the football,” Brandon Valley coach Matthew Christensen said. 


LINEBACKER: Sam Just, Sr., Harrisburg (6-3, 200)

Just anchored Harrisburg’s defensive unit, finishing with 63 tackles and two sacks this season. The two-year starter recorded 97 tackles and five sacks during his career. “Very explosive athlete with great length and athleticism,” Harrisburg coach Brandon White said. 


LINEBACKER: Tate Crosswait, Sr., Stevens (6-3, 220) 

Crosswait recorded 152 tackles (66 solo), four sacks and three forced fumbles. He added 960 passing yards and seven touchdowns as a quarterback, while rushing for 388 yards rushing. Crosswait was a three-year starter for Stevens. 


LINEBACKER: Sullivan Schlimgen, Jr., O’Gorman (6-0, 205)

Schlimgen led the Knights with 88 tackles, 10 tackles for loss and six pass breakups. He’s recorded 158 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, six pass breakups and one interception during his career. He’s a multiple-time all-conference performer. 


DEFENSIVE BACK: Dawson Sechser, Sr., Jefferson (6-0, 195)

Sechser led the Cavaliers’ defensive secondary with 52 tackles and three interceptions. He added two punt returns for touchdowns. For his career, Sechser logged 126 tackles and seven interceptions, including three for touchdowns. “Naturally instinctive players,” Jefferson coach Vincent Benedetto said. “Has made plays for us since he was a sophomore. Battled through some injuries this year and was a playmaker for us on O, D, and ST.”


DEFENSIVE BACK: Kaleb Briest, Sr., Brandon Valley (6-0, 180)

Briest logged 24 tackles and two interceptions during his senior campaign. For his career, Briest recorded four interceptions and 55 tackles. 


DEFENSIVE BACK: Mason Wilson, Sr., Washington (5-10, 190)

Wilson posted 69 tackles, six tackles for loss and one interception this season. He also led the Warriors in rushing yards and all-purpose yards on offense. The four-year starter had 182 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions and five touchdowns on defense. He logged 95 career solo tackles. “Mason is the definition of a Warrior,” Washington coach Ryan Evans said. “He is a total athlete. He was a coach on the field for us for multiple years. Mason is a great leader and his positive impact on our football program will be felt for years to come.”


DEFENSIVE BACK: Sawyer Tolk, Sr., Lincoln (6-1, 195)

Tolk posted 54 tackles, two tackles for loss and two interceptions for the state champs. “Sawyer was our leader in the defensive backfield,” Lincoln coach Jared Fredenburg said. “Great coachable kid, very smart, made all of our defensive checks.”


DEFENSIVE BACK: Henry Theobald, Sr., O’Gorman (6-0, 165)

Theobald led the Knights’ defensive secondary with 21 tackles and two interceptions. For his career, he posted 66 tackles and five interceptions. He added 35 receptions for 627 yards on offense. 


SPECIAL TEAMS: Ryder Haas, Sr., Brandon Valley (5-8, 180)

Haas finished 95% on PATs, 67% on field goals and 60% on touchbacks. He added 34 yards per punt. Haas, who was an all-stater in 2022, finished 95% on PATs, 75% on field goals and 67% on touchbacks for his career. He finished 36 yards per punt for his career. 


SPECIAL TEAMS: Braeden Feeldy, Jr., Harrisburg (5-10, 160)

Feeldy returned 15 kickoff returns for 443 yards (29.5 yards per return) and returned one for a touchdown. 


HONORABLE MENTION: Jack Thue, Sam Nolz and Dveyon-Bonwell-Witte, Brandon Valley; Talon Stief and Jackson Brouwer, SF Roosevelt; Carson Hughes, SF Jefferson; Logan O'Connor and Levi Danielson, Harrisburg; and Cael Meisman, RC Stevens.
