SoDak 16 contests to remain at neutral sites

At the South Dakota Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association's spring conference, proposals were voted upon by member athletic directors. 

Of note, Class A and Class B athletic directors voted not to approve higher seeds to host the SoDak 16 boys and girls basketball contests. In Class A, 37 athletic directors voted no and 16 voted yes. In Class B, 47 athletic directors voted no and 14 voted yes. Overall, it was an 84% no and the staff’s recommendation is not to approve the proposal. The SoDak 16 contests, with the winners moving onto the state tournament, will remain at neutral sites. 

In volleyball, Class A and Class B athletic directors voted on the same proposal. They will also remain at neutral sites, as 58% of Class A and Class B athletic directors voted no and the staff’s recommendation was not to approve it.

In Class A, 30 voted not and 22 voted yes. In Class B, 36 athletic directors voted no and 26 athletic directors voted yes. 

In football, the 12-team playoff format nine-man football was not approved by a 63% vote. In Class 9AA, 18 athletic directors voted no and 11 athletic directors voted yes. In Class 9A, 13 athletic directors voted no and six athletic directors voted yes. In Class 9B, 16 athletic directors voted no and 10 athletic directors voted yes.

Overall, 46 nine-man athletic directors voted no and the staff’s recommendation was not to approve the proposal. The nine-man football playoffs will continue to involve 16 teams in each class. 

Next week’s agenda for the SDHSAA Board of Directors meeting has been released. Of note, the board will discuss requests from Mount Vernon Superintendent Eric Denning and McCook Central Superintendent Matt Alley to start the process of sanctioning baseball.
