The South Dakota Amateur Baseball Association meeting was held Sunday at Mitchell’s Highland Conference Center.

As previously decided last year, the 2022 and ‘23 state amateur baseball tournaments will be in Mitchell. The 2024 site was not discussed or decided upon.

Financially, the SDABA pocketed $78,816.37 during the 2021 state amateur baseball tourney. The figure included $7,996.18 in pay-per-view receipts and SDABA President Dale Weber said the association will continue its relationship with LiveTicket.Tv for live-streaming the event.

New amateur baseball teams include Tea and Huron in Class A, while Winner will field another team in Class B. Scotland and Ipswich are considering fielding teams this season.

SDABA tournament director Jim “Jocko” Johnston said the Mitchell Baseball Association is on track for two upgrades to the Cadwell Sports Complex. The upgrades include turf field at Drake Field by this summer and a roof over the main grandstands at Cadwell Park by 2023.

Randy Sabers (District 4B), Trent Osborne (District 2B) and Ted Poncelet (Class A) were reappointed commissioners. The SDABA man of the year was Lake Norden’s Rusty Antonen.
