SDHSBA Hall of Fame Class of 2025

Brock Anderson graduated from Lennox in 2019. He was a two-time first team All-State performer. He was the 2019 Midco Sports Class B pitcher of the year with a 4-0 record and a 1.02 ERA with 39 strikeouts. During that season he led the Lennox Orioles to a state championship. He went on to play baseball at South Dakota State University.

Ryan Bauer has been a staple for the Brookings Bobcats since the beginning of spring baseball. He led the Bobcats to back to back state championships in 2015 and 2016. He’s coached six SDHSBA hall of fame players at Brookings.

Derek Fischer graduated from Brandon Valley high school in 2010. He was named first team all-region in 2010 and also garnered first team all-state honors. He went on to play baseball at the University of Sioux Falls.

Reed Harter graduated from Colome in 2016 and led his team win the 2016 state championship. He was named a first team all-state player three times and lettered for Winner/Colome for five seasons. He hit .533 as a senior and recorded a 2.86 ERA with 43 strikeouts. He went on to play baseball at the University of Sioux Falls and Dakota Wesleyan University.

Tom Hill graduated from O’Gorman in 2004. He was named to the 2003 All-State second team. He also was a 2002 legion all-state third baseman and a 2001 high school all-state second team pitcher. He went on to play football and baseball at Augustana in Sioux Falls.

Jamie Holsworth was one of the biggest pioneers and supporters of spring baseball in Rapid City. He worked tirelessly to launch Rapid City Central baseball in 2006. He not only coached the team but inspired several other teams to join the SDHSBA which ended up expanding the opportunities for high school baseball players in the Black Hills.

Dave Kemp played several different roles as a contributor to the early years of South Dakota high school baseball. The historian of the SDHSBA was always there to lend a helping hand and to encourage the growth of baseball at the high school level.

Kieren Luellman graduated from Yankton in 2019. In his junior season Luellman carried an ERA of 0.00 into the post season before giving up his first run. He ended up earning first team all-state honors as a junior and as a senior.

Tyler Olmstead graduated from Washington in 2016. He earned first team all-state honors as a dominant pitcher in 2016 and second team all-state in 2015. He tallied 65 strikeouts with a 1.07 earned run average in 39.1 innings as a junior and had a 6-2 record, 1.50 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 37 innings pitched as a senior while batting .437 with two home runs. He went on to play baseball at South Dakota State University.

Gus Radel graduated from Roosevelt in 2018. He’s one of the few players to be named a first-team all-state selection three different times. He was a huge part of the state championship that Roosevelt won in 2017. Gus was ranked as the no. 1 overall pitcher in South Dakota and no. 159 nationally by Perfect Game. He went on to play three seasons for the University of Minnesota and finished his college career with Northern State University.

Randy Sabers is a baseball guy through and through. He launched spring baseball in McCook County with grit and determination. He led McCook to a state tournament appearance as a coach and has been a contributor to the game ever since. He is now the South Dakota Amateur baseball commissioner.

Matt Thomas graduated from Brookings in 2012. He was an all-state selection in 2009 and 2012. He was also named the Legion State A player of the year in 2012 as he helped his team to a state championship. He went on to play at the University of Sioux Falls.

Dan Wilka rolled up his sleeves and made spring baseball a reality in the early days of the SDHSBA. He did everything from fundraising to finding umpires and scheduling games to make the high school season a success and get on a solid foundation.

The 2012 Vermillion Tanagers won the state championship in dramatic fashion. They went 18-3 on their way to an upset win over St. Thomas More. This core group won a state Teener championship and had the drive to do it at the high school level. “This team defines true team effort,” said Jason Gault, who coached the Tanagers. “We had a fun team that showcased what can be done when everyone pulls together.” In 2012 the Tanagers defeated St. Thomas More 8-7 in extra innings to win their first ever state title in baseball.
