South Dakota all-star teams split American Legion games

ALEXANDRIA — Team Red and Team Black split their American Legion all-star game series on Monday. Team Red defeated Team Black, 15-4, in Game 1. In Game 2, Team Black won, 9-7.

In Game 1, Team Red racked up 13 hits as 14 players collected hits. Stanley County’s Sam Hand drove in three runs in the win, while Clark/Willow Lake’s Mitchell Larson hammered a two-run home run. Platte-Geddes’ Dawson Hoffman and Dell Rapids’ Aiden Boechler drove in two runs apiece. Platte-Geddes’ Oakley Kott, Parkston’s Kaleb Weber, Clark/Willow Lake’s Lucas Kannegieter and Rapid City Post 22’s Hayden Leighty each drove in runs. Leighty started the first two innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out one batter. 

For Team Black, Tabor’s Brady Bierema drove in two runs and Salem/Montrose/Canova’s Jack Neises had two hits. Winner/Colome’s Pierce Nelson also drove in a run. 

In Game 2, Redfield’s Camden Osborn drove in three runs and Elk Point-Jefferson’s Hunter Geary knocked in two runs for Team Black. Sturgis’ Kain Peters had a hit and an RBI. Sioux Falls Post 15’s Dylan Rippentrop earned the win after throwing one scoreless relief inning and allowed one earned run, while striking out one batter.

For Team Red, Clark/Willow Lake’s Trey Huber knocked in two runs. Faulkton-Highmore’s Gunner Brueggeman, Platte-Geddes’ Jaxon Christensen and Rapid City Post 22’s Harrison Good drove in runs. Hoffman took the loss after allowing two hits and struck out one batter in one inning of relief.
