South Dakotans come up big at Tuesday's National Junior High Finals Rodeo

DES MOINES, Iowa — Team South Dakota had a big day Tuesday at the National Junior High Finals Rodeo, winning three performances and doing well in multiple events.

Saint Onge’s Cooper Conry and Alpena’s Londyn Mikkelsen won their performance in the ribbon roping with a time of 7.3 seconds. 

Wall’s Cooper Sampson won his performance in the breakaway roping, clocking a quick time of 2.3 seconds. 

Henry’s Ace Lammers won his performance in the boys goat tying with a time of 10.04 seconds.

A pair of South Dakota girls were each second in their Tuesday performances. Newell’s LuKayzee Brink had a time of 8.36 seconds in the goat tying. Eagle Butte’s CeCe Cowan was second in her pole bending performance with a time of 21.434 seconds. 

As the NJHFR turned the page to Wednesday, Mikkelson (165) and Cowan (135) are leading the All-Around Rookie Cowgirl competition.
