South Dakotans sign with Black Hills State, South Dakota Mines football programs

In-state NCAA Division II college football programs Black Hills State University and South Dakota School of Mines announced their recruiting classes on Wednesday.

Black Hills State University signed Hitchcock-Tulare’s Erik Salmen and Rapid City Stevens’ Bryce Swanson. Mines inked Hot Springs’ Caleb Rickenbach and Sturgis’ Aiden Werlinger to national letters of intent. 

Salmen, a 6-foot, 215-pound bruising running back, logged 186 carries for 1,406 rushing yards this past season. He added 16 receptions for 257 yards receiving and five touchdowns. The all-stater added 73.5 tackles, three sacks, 7 tackles for loss and four interceptions on defense. 

Swanson is a 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive end and tight end for the Raiders. 

Rickenbach was an all-state defensive lineman for Hot Springs, which won the Class 11B state football championship. Rickenbach posted 66 tackles, 13 sacks and 14 tackles for loss during his senior season. He posted 235 career tackles and 32 career sacks. He’s a 6-foot-1, 220-pound lineman. 

Werlinger, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound lineman, had 63 tackles and four sacks this past season. For his career, he logged 126 tackles and six sacks.
