RAPID CITY — With the temperature hovering in the low 40s and a brisk wind blowing, Spearfish senior Jaden Guthmiller uncorked one of the fastest 100-meter dashes in the history of South Dakota high school track and field.

Guthmiller exploded from the blocks, took an early lead that just kept growing as he crossed the line in :10.50 seconds. Friday’s time is the third fastest in South Dakota history trailing only Guthmiller’s state record (:10.45) and the (:10.49) by Sioux Falls Washington’s Matthew Stahl run in 2021.
