Spearfish freshman Peyton VanDeest and Hill City senior Luke Rupert won individual races at Friday’s  Rapid City Invitational run at the Hart Ranch Camping Resort. 

VanDeest covered the 5,000-meter course in 18:07, ahead of Sioux Falls Christian athletes Corrine Braun (18:33) and Ellie Maddox (18:33). Rapid City Stevens senior Gracie Uhre (18:20.72) and Lainey Berryhiill of Laramiel, Wyoming (18:43) rounded out the top-five. 

In the boys race Rupert’s winning time of 15:35 was ahead of Rapid City Stevens’ Grady Loos (15:43) and Douglas’s Peyton Cast (15:47). Belle Fourche’s Lane Krautschun (15:48) and Pierre’s Jared Lutmer (16:02) rounded out the top-five.
