State Golf Roundup - Defending champ Brynn Roehrich holds Day 1 lead at Class B girls tourney

WATERTOWN — Defending Class B champ Brynn Roehrich holds a one-stroke lead after Day 1 of the state girls golf tournament. 

The Clark/Willow Lake golfer carded an even par 72 at Watertown’s Prairie Winds Golf Club on Monday. She shot a 38 on the front nine and a 34 on the back nine, while carding three birdies on the day. 

Miller’s Jayce Pugh is one shot back with a 73. Chester’s Jadyn McDonald (74), St. Mary’s Isabella McNaughton (81) and Baltic’s Claire Berg (83) round out the top-five golfers. 

St. Mary’s (257) holds a one-shot lead over Miller (258) in the team standings. Chester (273) is in third place. 

The tournament concludes on Tuesday at Prairie Winds Golf Club.

Hanson boys hold Day 1 lead at Class B tourney 

WATERTOWN — The Hanson boys have a four-shot lead after Day 1 of the Class B boys golf tournament. 

The Beavers shot a 225 at Watertown’s Cattail Crossing Golf Course, and Clark/Willow Lake (229) is in second place. Flandreau and Wall are tied for third with 231s. 

Individually, Flandreau’s Alfie Henderson shot a 1-under 71, including a 33 on the back nine. Henderson carded five birdies, including four on the back nine. 

McIntosh’s Wyatt Larson and Freeman’s Tannen Auch are tied for second with 72s. Sully Buttes’ Gavin Colson, last year’s state champ, is tied fourth place with Hanson’s Will Jarding, Chester’s Carter Vogel, Clark/Willow Lake’s Kaden Wookey and Doland’s Kaiden Weinreis with 73s. 

The tournament concludes on Tuesday at Cattail Crossing Golf Course.

Vermillion girls take narrow lead after Day 1 of Class A state tournament

MADISON — Aberdeen Roncalli’s Claire Crawford holds a commanding four-stroke lead after Day 1 of the Class A girls golf tournament at the Madison Golf and Country Club.

Crawford finished the first day just five-over par, shooting an even 38 on the front nine and 38 on the back nine, totaling three birdies as well.

Sioux Falls Christian’s Tori Peterson is in second place shooting an 80 on Day 1 while West Central’s Ari Jacobs, St. Thomas More’s Rylan Horning and Vermillion’s Taylor Reuvers each shot 10 over to round out the top five going into the second day of the tournament.

Vermillion currently holds a one stroke lead in the team standings, with Sioux Falls Christian and St. Thomas More tied for second at +61.

The tournament concludes Tuesday at the Madison Golf and Country Club.

Aberdeen Central holds commanding lead after Day 1 of state tournament

SIOUX FALLS — Aberdeen Central girls golf currently holds a 10 stroke lead through one day of the Class AA girls golf tournament at Prairie Green Golf Course.

The Golden Eagles shot a team score of 317, well ahead of Mitchell (327), Rapid City Stevens (342), O’Gorman (353) and Sioux Falls Lincoln (358).

Individually, Olivia Braun shot one under par 71 Monday to take a six-stroke lead over the next closest golfers. Mitchell’s Maddie Childs, Anna Eliason and Aberdeen Central’s Emma Dohrer each shot five over for a 77, tying for second place. Alison Kennedy currently sits in third place after shooting a 79 on Day 1.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday at Prairie Green Golf Course.
