State baseball champion will be crowned today in Sioux Falls
Mitchell will play in the Class A state baseball tournament today in Sioux Falls.

SIOUX FALLS — The Class A South Dakota High School Baseball tournament is today at the Sioux Falls Stadium.

The four-team tourney starts at noon and concludes with the championship game at 5 p.m. No. 1 Sioux Falls Roosevelt plays No. 4 Mitchell at 12:05 p.m., while No. 6 Sioux Falls Washington plays No. 7 Sioux Falls Lincoln at 2:05 p.m. The winners will play in the championship game at 5:05 p.m.

Sioux Falls Roosevelt

Record: 25-1

First-round opponent: No. 4 Mitchell

Road to Sioux Falls: def. No. 9 Yankton, 2-1

Key Players: Ben Irsfeld, P; Marcus Phillips, UTL; Jamie Legg, C; Jaxsen Grevengoed, LF. 

Notes: Rough Riders lone loss was on April 26 to Brandon Valley (11-1); Roosevelt comes into the tournament on a 12 game winning streak. … Phillips will play baseball at Iowa Western Community College. 


Mitchell

Record: 17-7

First-round opponent: No. 1 Sioux Falls Roosevelt

Road to Sioux Falls: def. No. 13 Sioux Falls Jefferson 5-3; def. No. 5 Harrisburg 6-2

Key Players: Jake Helleloid, P/3B; Jonah Schmidt, UTL; Dylan Soulek, SS; Jace Larson, 2B; Landon Waddell, P.

Notes: Mitchell’s longest winning streak this season is seven wins. … Schmidt will play baseball next season at Northern State University. 


Sioux Falls Lincoln

Road to Sioux Falls: def. No. 10 Rapid City Stevens 3-1; def. No. 2 Brandon Valley 8-3

Notes: The Patriots came into the region tournament on a five-game losing streak, but won two games to advance to the state tournament.
