Sturgis, Bon Homme/Avon wrestling teams on top of dual rankings

One of the big changes to high school wrestling in South Dakota is the move to have the state dual tournament several weeks before the actual state tournament. 

On Saturday, Feb. 10 the top-eight Class A dual teams will compete for the state dual title at the Dacota Bank Center in Brookings. That same day the top-eight Class B teams will converge at the Watertown Civic Arena in Watertown. 

As of Thursday, Dec. 21 here are the top-ranked dual teams in their respective classes. 

Class A dual rankings, records and Seed points: (Top-eight teams qualify for state)

  1. Sturgis, 3-0, 47.000; 2. Pierre, 3-0, 46.000; 3. Aberdeen Central, 7-1, 45.250; 4. Brandon Valley, 1-0, 44.000; 5. Rapid City Stevens, 1-0, 43.500; 6. Watertown, 6-1; 43.286; 7. West Central, 6-1; 42.286; 8. Tea Area, 6-2; 42.375; 9. Milbank, 3-2, 42.000; 10. Brookings, 2-2, 41.500

Class B dual rankings, records and Seed points: (Top-eight teams qualify for state))

  1. Bon Homme/Avon, 11-0, 45.500; 2. Clark/Willow Lake, 2-0, 45.500; 3. Faulkton Area, 3-0, 45.000; 4. Bennett County, 1-0, 44.000; 5. Custer, 44.000; 6. Miller/Highmore-Harrold, 11-1; 7. Canton, 7-0, 43.143; 8. Stanley County, 10-5, 42.667; 9. Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes, 2-0; 10. Winner Area, 2-0, 42.500

The Bon Homme/Avon wrestling team is off to an 11-0 start this season and has the highest seed points in the Class B ranks - Trey Kaul, 605 Sports

The state wrestling individual tournament will be held on Feb. 22-24 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.
