FREEMAN — Freeman Academy/Marion’s Tavin Schroeder and Chester’s Emery Larson captured individual titles at Wednesday’s Flyer Invitational cross-country meet. 

Schroeder covered the 5,000-meter distance at Valley View Golf Course in 16-minutes and :27.56 seconds, finishing ahead of teammate Finley McConniel (17:11.74). McCrossan’s Ethan Hartung (18:23.53) and Avon’s Tyler Tjeerdsma (18:31.18) finished third and fourth, respectively. Freeman’s Braydan Mangel (18:42.97) placed fifth.

Larson won the girls 5,000-meter run in 19:00.98, finishing ahead of Dell Rapids St. Mary’s Elizabeth Vogel (20:57.34). Gayville-Volin’s Jolie Westrum (21:10.71) and Menno’s Ashton Massey (21:21.30) placed third and fourth, respectively. Freeman Academy/Marion’s Estelle Waltner (21:30.01) finished fifth.

In the team standings, Freeman Academy/Marion boys won the team title with 12 points. Elk Point-Jefferson (30) and Parker (33) placed second and third, respectively. 

On the girls side, Chester and Dell Rapids St. Mary’s tied for the team title with 19 points. Hanson (31) placed third.
