The 2023 South Dakota high school football playoffs kicked off for four classes, while the regular season wrapped up for three others on Oct. 19. 

Here are this week’s top performers across South Dakota for football games on Oct. 19.

  • Avon’s Aziah Meyer powered a potent Pirate rushing attack in a Class 9B playoff win over Faith. Meyer rushed for 276 yards and five touchdowns as the Pirates rushed for 511 yards.

  • Hitchcock-Tulare’s Erik Salmen was all over the field in a 44-24 win over Lemmon-McIntosh in the Class 9B playoffs. Salmen erupted for 219 rushing yards on 31 carries and scored five touchdowns. He added 43 yards passing and a passing touchdown. On defense, Salmen had six tackles and an interception. 

  • Freeman-Marion-Academy’s Karter Weber completed 12 of 16 passes for 133 yards and threw two touchdown passes in a seesaw 32-28 win over Stanley County in the Class 9AA playoffs. Weber added 67 yards rushing and a score. 

  • Stanley County’s Colton Brady rushed for 125 yards on 25 carries and scored three touchdowns for the Buffaloes. 

  • Hot Springs’ Camron Maciejewski racked up 214 yards rushing on 10 carries and scored five touchdowns in a Class 11B playoff win over Bridgewater-Emery. Maciejewski added 10 tackles on defense.

  • Gregory’s Rylan Peck racked up 242 rushing yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns in a Class 9A playoff win over Harding County/Bison. Peck added six tackles and an interception on defense. 

  • Harding County/Bison’s Rylee Veal rushed for 166 yards on 23 carries and scored two touchdowns for the Ranchers. 

  • Pierre’s Cade Kaiser completed 12 of 14 passes for 202 yards and threw five passing touchdowns in a 64-6 win over Douglas. 

  • Winner’s Aiden Barfuss logged 162 yards rushing on 11 carries and scored two touchdowns in a Class 11B playoff win over Parker. 

  • Deuel’s Trey Maaland racked up 288 yards rushing on 39 carries and scored three touchdowns in a Class 11B playoff win over Webster Area. 

  • De Smet’s Britt Carlson completed 5 of 6 passes for 215 yards and threw four touchdowns in a Class 9B playoff win over Colome. He added 39 yards rushing and a score. Carlson had five tackles on defense. 

  • Elkton-Lake Benton’s Colt Beck completed 9 of 15 passes for 172 yards and threw two touchdowns in a 52-0 win over Britton-Hecla. Beck added 108 yards rushing and one more score. 

  • Elk Point-Jefferson’s Keaton Gale completed 11 of 21 passes for 209 yards and threw four passing touchdowns in a Class 11B playoff win over Groton Area. 

  • Sioux Valley’s Donovan Rose rushed for 119 yards on seven carries and scored three touchdowns in a 59-6 win over Mount Vernon/Plankinton. 

  • Madison’s Cohen Hahn completed 10 of 19 passes for 282 yards and threw three passing touchdowns in a 48-7 win over Custer. Shane Veenhof hauled in two catches for 123 yards and caught two touchdowns. 

  • Dell Rapids’ Mason Stubbe erupted for 272 yards rushing on 12 carries and scored four touchdowns in a 53-18 win over Dakota Valley. 

  • Keegan DeYoung piled up a school-record 229 yards rushing on 25 carries and scored a touchdown in a win over Watertown. Brenner Konrad added 123 rushing yards on 12 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns in the win. 

  • Platte-Geddes’ Joey Foxley scored five rushing touchdowns in a 46-6 playoff win over Great Plains Lutheran.
