Wagner’s Ashlyn Koupal commits to Nebraska women’s basketball team

Wagner High School’s Ashlyn Koupal has committed to the University of Nebraska women’s basketball team. Koupal announced her intentions on social media on Saturday, Aug. 9. 

Wagner picked the Cornhuskers over Duke, Kansas, Michigan State and TCU. Koupal is the No. 9-ranked player in the Class of 2026, according to 247sports.com. A 6-foot-3 junior guard/forward, Koupal was the South Dakota Class A girls basketball player of the year last season.

The do-it-all wing was also named this year’s Gatorade South Dakota girls basketball player of the year. Koupal has been named to the Class A all-state first-team the past three seasons. 

She led the Red Raiders (18-7) to a seventh-place finish at the Class A state tournament. 

Koupal averaged 22.8 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 3.5 blocks and 2.3 steals per game this season. She shot 58% from the field and 85% from the free-throw line. 

She recorded one quadruple-double, two triple-doubles and 10 double-doubles last season.
