Week 9 Class A Rankings - Sturgis cements itself as favorite to win Class A state title

If there were any questions whether Sturgis deserves the No. 1 team ranking in Class A wrestling, those questions were answered at Saturday’s Belle Fourche Invitational.

The Scoopers had a slight lead on Class A No. 3 Rapid City Stevens after day one of that tournament. By the time the final tallies came in Sturgis amassed 341 points, well ahead of Stevens (269.5) and Custer (172)

Sturgis had nine champions at the Belle Fourche Invitational. The Scoopers had two athletes finish as runner-up and two athletes in third place. That depth will be hard for anyone to top at the state tournament in February.

Wrestler of the Week - Micah Hach, Watertown: Hach met Canton’s Traun Cook in the finals (285) of the Lee Wolf tournament in what turned out to be a heck of a match.
