Mitchell High School would like to announce the hiring of Wes Morgan as the new head girls basketball coach.

Morgan returns to the role after previously serving as head coach for 11 seasons before stepping away in 2019. He replaces Dave Brooks, who served as head coach for the past four seasons. Coach Morgan inherits a program with recent strong postseason success, including back-to-back fifth-place finishes at the state tournament over the last two years.

Since stepping down as head girls coach, Morgan has remained an integral part of Mitchell basketball. He spent four years as an assistant coach with the Kernels boys program and most recently has served as an assistant coach for the girls team, maintaining close ties with the program and its student-athletes. Morgan’s familiarity with the program, combined with his recent coaching experience on both the boys and girls sides, provides a unique perspective as he steps back into the head coaching role. The hire is pending school board approval.

“I am thrilled to welcome Wes back as our head girls basketball coach. His experience, passion for the game, and deep connection to our school and community make him the ideal person to lead our program forward. He has been instrumental in our recent success and we look forward to the continued success and development of the girls basketball program under his leadership.” – Cory Aadland

“I am very excited to return as the head coach of the Kernel girls basketball program. We have a great thing going in Mitchell with the Kernels and the Palace City Basketball programs. With two consecutive 5th place finishes at the state tournament, we are in a good spot and look forward to building on that momentum.”
