Hill City Rangers 72, Stanley County Buffaloes 32

HILL CITY — Hill City broke away from Stanley County for a season-opening victory in high school football action on Friday. 


St. Thomas More Cavaliers 28, Sioux Valley Cossacks 14

RAPID CITY — Class 11B No. 4 St. Thomas More picked up a narrow victory over No. 2 Sioux Valley Friday.

Broeden Sales hauled in two passing touchdowns in the win, an opening 12-yard score and a 50-yard touchdown on a screen pass to seal the win. Kain McLeod returned a punt 68-yards for a touchdown while Grayden Juve added a 2-yard touchdown run to highlight the Cavalier scoring.

For SV, Mitchell Guthmiller scored the first touchdown on an 89-yard kick return while quarterback Wyatt Hardt added a 33-yard scramble for a score in the loss.


Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy Phoenix 20, Parkston Trojans 6

PARKSTON — Class 9AA No. 5 Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy came out on top to defeat Class 9AA No. 3 Parkston in a top-5 showdown Friday.

FMFA’s Riley Tschetter scored two first-half touchdowns in the win, one from 8-yards out and another at the goal-line. Luke Peters sealed the victory for the Phoenix on a pick-six in the last minute of the game. The Phoenix forced three Trojan interceptions in the win.

For Parkston, Mason Jervik tallied the lone score of the game on a four-yard touchdown run.

 

Hanson Beavers 50, Garretson Blue Dragons 7

ALEXANDRIA — Hanson piled up 454 yards of total offense en route to a Friday high school football win. The Beavers rushed for 403 yards on 41 carries.

Hanson’s Stetson Riggs rushed for 141 yards on eight carries and scored a touchdown. Cole Dewald rushed for 128 yards on nine carries and scored two touchdowns. Radek Jarding added 77 yards rushing and scored a touchdown. Jason Porth hauled in a 34-yard touchdown reception from Jett Jager. Carson Kampshoff added a touchdown run. 

For Garretson, Collin Olson rushed for 110 yards on 13 carries and scored a touchdown. Chase Arend passed for 94 yards and Jackson Arend hauled in 46 yards receiving.


Viborg/Hurley Cougars 50, Canistota Hawks 0

HURLEY — Brady Schroedermeier scored five touchdowns as Class 9AA No. 4 Viborg/Hurley blanked Class 9B No. 5 Canistota to start the 2025 season.

Schroedermeier completed 8-of-14 pass attempts for 117 yards and three passing touchdowns while rushing six times for 34 yards and two more scores. Jack Kessler added a rushing touchdown on three carries while Reese Simonsen had a touchdown run. Lincoln Vannorsdel connected with Noah Werdel on a 17-yard touchdown pass as well. Nolan Kolthoff caught two passes for 77 yards, with both going for scores while Jake Austin reeled in a three-yard touchdown reception in the win.

For Canistota, Easton Miller rushed five times for 12 yards, Nate Merrill completed three passes for 18 yards while Prayden Acheson led the team with nine tackles in the loss.


Sioux Falls Lutheran Eagles 52, Irene-Wakonda Eagles 20

SIOUX FALLS — Sioux Falls Lutheran rushed for 269 yards and five touchdowns as the Eagles won its first varsity football game in school history over Irene-Wakonda Friday.

Abbot Muller led the charge with 133 yards on four carries, scoring three touchdowns, Cooper Ovenden had seven carries for 71 yards and a score while Rowen Becker tallied 62 yards on five carries and a touchdown as well. Becker completed 4-of-5 pass attempts for 37 yards and a touchdown, with Callum Oven hauling in a 26-yard touchdown. Muller led the Eagles defense with 8.5 tackles.

For IW, Aidan Mulder rushed 16 times for 95 yards and two touchdowns while Brody Johnke added 72 yards on 15 carries in the loss. Johnke completed 10 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. Hayen Hansen had two receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown in the loss as well.


Corsica-Stickney Jaguars 42, Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots 6

CORSICA — Waylon Bolle’s 148 rushing yards powered Corsica-Stickney to a Class 9B victory over Hitchcock-Tulare Friday.

Bolle rushed 17 times for 148 yards and one rushing touchdown, adding a touchdown reception as well. Connor Wright added eight carries for 108 yards while Quentin Devries led the Jaguar defense with 11 tackles.

Harding County-Bison Ranchers 44, Gettysburg Battlers 12

BISON — Class 9A No. 5 Harding County-Bison collected 401 yards of offense as it rolled past Gettysburg in high school football action Friday.

Ryder Hunsucker completed 13-of-21 pass attempts for 219 yards and three touchdowns. Elim Simmons rushed 27 times for the Ranchers, totaling 130 yards while Tyrel Koan added 56 yards on three attempts and two rushing scores. Koan caught two passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns while Shawn Glines added four receptions for 62 yards and a score in the win. Revyn Floyd led the rancher defense with nine tackles as well.

For Gettysburg, Boston Brown had eight completions for 89 yards, a touchdown and four interceptions. Chase Furuli tallied 27 yards on five carries while Brown collected a rushing touchdown. Michael Jaeger hauled in two passes for 19 yards and a score while Jack Simon led the Battler defense with 10 tackles.


Leola-Frederick Area Titans 54, Redfield Pheasants 22

REDFIELD — Leola/Frederick Area upended Redfield for a Class 9AA high school football victory Friday.

LF stats were not reported.

For Redfield, Conner Zens totaled 183 yards on 19 carries, adding 10 receiving yards. Noah Johnson tallied 49 yards receiving while Jackson Rude added 32 yards receiving as well. Chase Odland completed nine passes for 91 yards, while Zens led the Pheasants defense with five tackles.


Iroquois-Lake Preston Sharks 22, Wilmot Wolves 14

IROQUOIS — Lucas Peskey totaled over 160 yards of offense as Iroquois-Lake Preston clipped Wilmot in high school football action Friday.

Peskey rushed 19 times for 138 yards while hauling in four passes for 34 yards in the win. Brycen Blue completed 10-of-16 pass attempts for 144 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with Ervin Carter and Aiden Query on scores. Peskey led the Sharks defense in tackles with 11 as well.

Wilmot’s stats were not reported.


Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 61, Parker Pheasants 19

ELK POINT — Class 11B No. 3 Elk Point-Jefferson rolled past Parker in Friday high school football action.

EPJ’s Luke Schmitz finished with 132 rushing yards on 14 carries and scored three touchdowns. Beau Schmitz added 116 yards rushing and one touchdown, while Aiden Hammitt rushed for 141 yards and one touchdown. Brody VanRoekel added 87 yards rushing and touchdown, while Dawson Fullenkamp had a touchdown run. VanRoekel added a 26 yard interception return for a touchdown. 

Parker’s Levi Weiman passed for 214 yards and threw a touchdown pass. Weiman also ran for a score. Luke Travnicek hauled in a touchdown reception, while Tonner Peterson had 74 yards receiving. Colin Robertson added a rushing touchdown. 

 

Kimball/White Lake WiLdKats 36, De Smet Bulldogs 34

DE SMET — Kimball/White Lake clipped De Smet in Friday high school football action.

KWL’s Keaton Christensen finished with 241 yards passing and threw two passing touchdowns. Carter Konechne hauled in 188 yards receiving and two touchdown passes. He added 16 tackles on defense. Chevy Fees recorded 13 tackles. 

De Smet’s Slayten Wilkinson rushed for 198 yards on 23 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns. He added 56 yards receiving and two touchdowns, while he had 15 tackles on defense. Brody Halverson passed for 82 yards and two touchdowns. Rogan Albrecht had a kickoff return for a touchdown, while Kolby Sinclair had an interception. RJ Cleveland posted six tackles. 


Gregory Gorillas 48, Scotland/Menno Trappers 38

SCOTLAND — Lincoln Juracek tossed six passing touchdowns as Gregory picked up a Friday high school football win.

Juracek completed 12-of-25 passes for 343 yards and six touchdown passes. Landon Keiser hauled in four catches for 180 yards and three touchdown receptions. Colt Keiser caught six passes for 106 yards and three touchdown receptions. Landon Keiser had 52 rushing yards. 

For Scotland/Menno, Izayah Ulmer completed 10-of-25 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown. Keyen Fischer rushed for 145 yards on 23 carries and scored three touchdowns. Hunter Clark caught two catches for 99 yards, while Jarret Andretta had four catches for 69 yards and a touchdown. 


Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Bucks 13, Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan Seahawks 12

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central clipped Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan in Friday high school football action.

WWSSC’s Luke Larson completed 12-of-22 passes for 230 yards and threw two passing touchdowns. Grant Edwards and Hayes Havlik caught touchdown receptions. Wesley Molnar and Colby Flowers recorded 59 and 57 receiving yards, respectively. Hunter Fenske tallied 12.5 tackles.
