Wall 56, Bennett County 6

MARTIN — Class 9AA No. 2 Wall racked up 449 total yards in a season-opening high school football win over Bennett County on Thursday. Wall passed for 252 yards and rushed for 197 yards. 

Wall’s Burk Blasius completed 13 of 15 passes, threw for 252 yards and tossed four touchdown receptions. He added 131 rushing yards and three more scores. Blasius threw passing touchdowns to Dawson Handcock, Younger Amiotte, Kale Crowser and Levi Sharp. Sawyer Sandal had a fumble recovery for a touchdown. 

For Bennett County, Christin Poor Bear scored its lone touchdown on a kickoff return. The Warriors finished with 42 total yards.


Harding County/Bison 58, New Underwood 6

BUFFALO — Harding County/Bison racked up 396 rushing yards in a season-opening high school football win over New Underwood on Thursday. 

Rylee Veal led the Ranchers with 253 rushing yards on 11 carries and scored three touchdowns. Veal had six tackles on defense and returned two fumbles for touchdowns. 

Brennan Glines added 78 rushing yards and a touchdown. R.J. Meyer logged 23 rushing yards and a touchdown. Hayden Pihl passed for 28 yards and had a touchdown pass to Payton Dvorak. Glines and Kohl Risty had five tackles apiece. Kaden Green and Dvorak had interceptions on defense. 

For New Underwood, Burke Beer had 59 rushing yards and Jaxon Fulton had the team’s lone score. Fulton passed for 54 yards and Beer hauled in 29 receiving yards. Blake Beer and Burke Beer had four tackles apiece. 


Avon 42, Colome 12

AVON — Avon rolled up 323 total yards in a season-opening win over Colome in high school football action on Thursday. The Pirates rushed for 184 yards on 21 carries. 

Avon’s Paxton Bierema finished with 139 passing yards, rushed for 39 yards and scored four total touchdowns. Bierema threw touchdown passes to Landon Thury and Trace Pelton, while Bierema rushed for a score and returned a kickoff for a touchdown. 

Tyler Tjeerdsma recorded 85 rushing yards and scored two rushing scores. 

Colome’s Lane Leighton and Eli Vobr had rushing touchdowns. Colome had 145 rushing yards and 87 passing yards. 


Sioux Valley 42, Scotland-Menno 0

MENNO — Class 11B No. 3 Sioux Valley rushed for 398 yards en route to a shutout win over Scotland-Menno in high school football action Thursday. 

Brock Christopherson racked up 127 rushing yards on 11 carries and scored two touchdowns. Boden Schiller added 121 rushing yards on six carries and scored a rushing touchdown. Donovan Rose rushed for 55 yards and had a rushing score. Maverick Nelson and Wyatt Hardt added rushing touchdowns. 

Defensively, Hudsyn Ruesink and Braden Danzeisen had eight tackles apiece. 

For Scotland-Menno, Jayce Walloch rushed for 22 yards and Keyen Fischer had 15 rushing yards. Izayah Ulmer passed for 22 yards. 

Defensively, Logan Sayler had 11 tackles and Walloch had eight tackles.
