Aug. 3 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Tabor hits past Akron in Class B action

Tabor 8, Akron 1 

MITCHELL — Chase Kortan pitched a complete game and Tabor racked up 15 hits en route to a Class B state amateur baseball tournament baseball win Thursday. 

Kortan allowed seven hits, one earned run, two walks and struck out five batters on 119 pitches. Kortan added a hit and an RBI on offense. 

Joey Slama had three hits and drove in three runs. Riley Rothschadl, Chris Sutera and Nolan Carda had three hits apiece. Cards and Sutera each drove in runs. Bryce Scieszinski had an RBI and Jalen Wieseler had a hit. 

For Akron, Sam Mullinix had three of the team’s seven hits. Jared Kirkeby took the loss after allowing 13 hits, six earned runs, one walk and struck out four batters in his six-inning start. 


Dell Rapids Mudcats 12, Lennox-Chancellor-Worthing 2 (7 innings)

MITCHELL — The Dell Rapids Mudcats pulled away from Lennox-Chancellor-Worthing for a Class B state amateur baseball opening-round win Thursday.

Grant Olson drove in three runs, while Carter Gullickson and Spencer Freudenthal knocked in two runs apiece. Gullickson had two hits. Ty Hoglund, Chad Hunt and Kole Zimmerman each drove in runs. Dalton Lehnen and Trevor Freudenthal each had hits.

Starter Dalton Allen lasted the first four innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs, three walks and struck out six batters. Deon Entringer earned the win after throwing two scoreless relief innings and struck out three batters, while not allowing a hit.

For LCW, Justin Underwood had two hits and an RBI. Zach Schrank took the loss after allowing six hits, six earned runs, six walks and struck out five batters in his 4.1-inning start. 


Winner/Colome 9, Plankinton 0

MITCHELL — Connor Hopkins fanned nine batters and Winner/Colome racked up 12 hits en route to a Class B state amateur baseball opening-round win Thursday.

Hopkins allowed three hits, three walks and zero runs on 98 pitches. Derek Graesser led the Winner/Colome offense with three hits and two RBI. Reed Harter and Zach Harter had two hits and an RBI apiece. Trevor Salmonson added two hits. Chandler Bakley drove in two runs, while Drew DeMers and Dillon Lambley each drove in runs. Pierce Nelson had a hit. 

For Plankinton, Drew Gerlach, Blaine Bohr, Sean DeVries, Thomas Stange, Mike Schwartz and Devin Mehlhaff each had hits. Schwartz took the loss after allowing six hits, five runs, zero walks and zero strikeouts in his three-inning start. 


Mount Vernon 17, Four Corners 6

MITCHELL — Spencer Neugebauer and Chase Hetland powered Mount Vernon’s offensive onslaught en route to a Class B state amateur baseball win Thursday.

Neugebauer led the Mustangs with four hits (two triples, one single) and four RBI. Hetland added three hits and drove in three runs, including a solo homer. Koby Larson added two hits and drove in a run. Briggs Havlik and Eric Giblin each drove in two runs. Deric Denning added an RBI, while Brady Albrecht and Cameron Deinert each had hits. Luke Tiesler earned the win after allowing one earned run through 1.2 relief innings, while allowing three hits. Bradley Dean started and lasted 5.1 innings, allowing eight hits, five earned runs, four walks and struck out four batters.

For Four Corners, Andrew McCloud finished with two hits and two RBI. Nathan Hainy recorded two hits, while J.D. Farley added two hits and an RBI. Cooper Hainy drove in two runs. Brad Hand, Noah Hainy, River Iverson and Justin Lester each had hits. Noah Hainy took the loss after allowing four earned runs on four hits, while walking six batters and striking out two batters through 1.1 relief innings.
