Aug. 5 Amateur Baseball Roundup - Dimock-Emery edges Miller-Wessington, advances to Class B second round

Dimock-Emery 2, Miller-Wessington 0

MITCHELL — Dimock-Emery edged Miller-Wessington in the first round of the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Saturday.

Dimock-Emery starter Josh Engquist scattered six hits, struck out four batters and issued one walk on 110 pitches. Phil Johnson struck out two batters in the ninth to earn the save. 

Johnson drove in a run, while Peyton Nash, Jonah Schmidt, Parker Bollinger and Colton Plagmann each had hits. 

For Miller-Wessington, Rafael Clemente and Jay Winter had two hits apiece. Layne Cotton and Blaze Herdman had hits. Cotton started and lasted the first five innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and struck out five batters. 


Larchwood (Iowa) 10, Wessington Springs 0 (8 innings)

MITCHELL — Larchwood, Iowa, blanked Wessington Springs in Class B state amateur baseball tournament action on Saturday.

Larchwood’s Isaac Horigan threw a five-hitter, while striking out 11 batters and walking just one batter on 111 pitches. The Diamonds logged 12 hits, including four hits and two RBI from Brent Ripperda. Nick Bonte finished with two hits, while Keaton Grevengoed, Micah Linn, Cody Groskruetz, Mitch Peschon, Scott Erickson and Chase Vanderfeen had hits. Vanderfeen and Grevengoed drove in two runs apiece.

For Wessington Springs, Terrek Butterfield and Tyson Lien had two hits apiece. Starter Mason Schelske lasted 4.2 innings, finishing with one strikeout, two walks, two earned runs and scattered five hits.  


Crofton (Neb.) 6, Hartford/Humboldt 3

MITCHELL — Crofton held off Hartford/Humboldt Gamecocks in the opening round of the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Saturday.

Zach Hegge threw a complete game, finishing with four strikeouts, two earned runs allowed, scattered six hits and allowed one walk. James Kaiser had two hits and drove in a run. Jared Weibelhaus and Colton Schieffer both drove in two runs apiece.

For the Gamecocks, Cam Quigley and Oscar Pravecek had two hits and an RBI apiece. Starter Seth Christiansen allowed five hits, six earned runs, four walks and nine strikeouts in his eight-inning start. 

 

Kimball/White Lake 4, Elk Point 0

MITCHELL — Zak Wallner threw a complete game and Dylanger Pierson homered as Kimball/White Lake defeated Elk Point in the opening round of the Class B state amateur baseball tournament on Saturday.

Wallner struck out 11 batters, scattered four hits and one walk on 111 pitches. Pierson finished 1 of 3 and drove in two runs, including a solo homer. 

Trent Wookey, Eathen Gaulke, Caden Lenz, Blake Leiferman and Dylan Konechne added hits.

Elk Point’s Coy Determan had two hits, while Steve Fejfar and Jay Thaler added hits. Jon Merrigan started and lasted 4.1 innings, allowing one earned run on four hits and struck out three batters.
