Bennett County girls look strong at Wall Eagle qualifier

WALL — It was a quiet day for high school track and field on Monday but some of the state's top marks were delivered at the Monday’s Wall Eagle Qualifier.

In particular the Bennett County girls looked very strong with a number of first-place finishes with some of Class A’s top marks so far this season.

Eighth-grader Reagan O’Neill won the 100-meter dash (:12.64), the 200-meter dash (:25.23) the long jump (19-00.25) and teamed with Peyson O’Neill, Macy Claussen and Harley Harris to win the 400-meter relay (:49.87). The :25.23 in the 200-meter dash is the top time in South Dakota 

Peyson O’Neill won the 100-meter hurdles (:14.98), 300-meter hurdles (:44.98), finished second in the high jump (5-00) and ran the opening leg on the 400-meter relay.

Another Bennett County youngster Harley Harris won the triple jump (34-00).

The Lemmon girls also had a very strong day led by distance runner Karly Riley who won the 800-meter run (2:36.37), 1,600-meter run (5:46.85) and 3,200-meter run (13:34.75).

The Lemmon girls won the 1,600-meter relay (4:22.72), the 3,200-meter relay (10:24.12), and the sprint medley relay (4:33.66).

In boys action the Philip boys had a number of top performances, particularly in the distance events and longer relays.

Wakely Burns won the 1,600-meter run (4:39.02) and anchored the 1,600-meter relay to a first place finish (3:48.02). Trey Larson ran on the 1,600-meter relay and anchored the sprint medley team to a first place finish (3:46.09). 

Philip’s Layton Terkildsen finished second in the high jump (6-00) and ran a leg on the sprint medley relay team. Kash Slovak won the pole vault (11-06).

Bennett County freshman Rush O’Neill won the 100-meter dash (:11.82), the 200-meter dash (:23.49), the 110-meter hurdles (:15.55) and the high jump (6-02). Bennett County sophomore Tyce Gropper won the 300-meter hurdles (:42.60). 

Wall’s Brodi Sundall won the 800-meter run (2:02.14) and ran a leg on the winning 800-meter relay (1:34.30). Wall sophomore Dawson Handcock won the long jump (20-11.75).
