Bennett County’s Rush O’Neill wins two events at DWU high school track meet

MITCHELL — Bennett County sophomore Rush O’Neill won two events at Tuesday’s indoor meet on the campus of Dakota Wesleyan University. 

O’Neill won the high jump (6-06) and the 60-meter hurdles (:8.41). O’Neill had the second fastest qualifying time in the 60-meter dash (:7.20) but opted not to run the finals of that race. 

Colman-Egan’s Christopher Lee won the 60-meter dash (:7.01), the 200-meter dash (:23.29) and ran a leg on the Hawks third place 1,600-meter relay (3:43.62).

Lennox’s Cloy McVey won the 1,600-meter run (4:36.84) and finished fifth in the 800-meter run (2:12.10). 

Individual titles on the boys side were claimed by Lennox’s Drake Mikkelsen in the 400-meter dash (:51.84), Mitchell’s Hunter Patton in the 800-meter run (2:04.84), Mitchell’s Floyd Korzan in the 3,000-meter run (10:39.38), Winner’s Shawn Hammerbeck in the shot put (50-07.25), Ethan/Parkston’s Jayden Digmann in the pole vault (11-00), Ethan/Parkston’s James Deckert in the long jump (21-07.25) and Ethan/Parkston’s Sean Deckert in the triple jump (40-10.5). 

Winner won the 1,600-meter relay (3:38.79) and Mitchell won the 3,200-meter relay (8:32.59). 

In girls action Lennox eighth grader Bergan Musser won the 60-meter dash (:7.76), 200-meter dash (:25.83) and the long jump (17-08.75). 

The Lennox girls also picked up wins from Karlie Bosma in the 800-meter run (2:28.17) and from Kelsey Schmidt in the 1,600-meter run (5:20.90). 

Colman-Egan’s Jolie Flatten continued her indoor dominance of the 400-meter dash winning in (1:01.05). Teammate Quinn Meyer won the high jump (5-01).

Other event winners were Alexis Roesler of Wessington Springs in the 3,000-meter run (13:50.84), Mitchell’s Keyanna Kelley in the 60-meter hurdles (:9.51), Scotland/Menno’s Trinity Bietz in the shot put (37-01.25), Platte-Geddes’ Rylen Kramp in the pole vault (8-09) and Baltic’s Daynica Witzel in the triple jump (33-05). 

Mitchell won the 1,600-meter relay (4:19.71) and Ethan/Parkston won the 3,200-meter relay (10:32.96).
