BOSTON — The Boston Celtics posthumously honored Viborg/Hurley graduate Kobee Sherman as a Hero Among Us during their April 12 home game against the Orlando Magic.

Kobee, a devoted Celtics fan, was recognized for founding the Midwest Miracles Foundation after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, using his love of basketball to support pediatric cancer patients and their families. Although he passed away in Nov. 2025 before fulfilling his wish of attending a Celtics game, his family has continued carrying forward the mission he started.

After being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, Sherman met his fight with resilience and purpose. Rather than letting his illness define him, he created the Midwest Miracles Foundation and used basketball as a way to support pediatric cancer patients and their families. Although he passed away in Nov. 2025 before he could fulfill his wish of attending a Celtics game, his impact continued through the mission he started. His family carried that work forward, honoring both his dream and his commitment to helping others facing the same battle.

Since its establishment in 1997 by the Boston Celtics, the Heroes Among Us program has recognized outstanding individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their communities. The award is presented at every Celtics home game and pays tribute to the heroic achievements of these outstanding citizens.
