ALBUQUERQUE — Former Brookings standout and current New Mexico linebacker Jaxton Eck earned conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for the Mountain West Conference this past weekend.

Eck recorded 11 tackles and one pass breakup that led to a fourth quarter interception in the Lobos’ 35-10 win over the University of California-Los Angeles.

The 6-foot-1, 224-pound junior is in his first season with New Mexico after transferring from the University of Idaho last season where he started all 14 games.

Eck has totaled 34 tackles, a pass breakup and one interception this season for the Lobos.
