SIOUX FALLS — From start to finish, the 2023-24 season belonged to the Canton High School boys wrestling team. Winners of six consecutive state championships, Canton held off a big challenge from Philip/Kadoka Area/Wall Badlands Brawlers to etch their name deeper into the South Dakota record books. 

Canton had three individual state champions and finished with 170.5 points, ahead of Philip/Kadoka Area/Wall Badlands Brawlers (151.5) and Custer (115). Winner Area (114.5) and Wagner (103.5) rounded out the top-five teams. 

Carter Kendrick (106), Ashton Keller (132) and Ayson Rice (150) all won titles for the C-Hawks. 

Philip/Kadoka Area/Wall Badlands Brawlers had two champions in Jace Blasius (144) and Burk Blasius (175). 

Custer had a pair of champions in Tray Weiss (120) and Parker Noem (190)

Howard’s Jackson Remmers won a third state title, this year at (157). With that win the Howard senior equaled South Dakota’s all-time wins record (286) that he now shared with former Winner Area wrestler Kaden Keiser. 

Other individual titles were claimed by Hamlin/Castlewood’s Brody Randall (113), Winner Area’s Maxton Brozik (126), Miller/Highmore-Harrold Kellen Hurd (138), Wagner’s Jhett Breen (165), Parker’s Levi Wieman (215) and Redfield’s Grady Fey (285). 

Brozik and Hurd both won their second career state titles.
