Chamberlain girls, Cheyenne-Eagle Butte boys capture Region 4A cross-country titles

OACOMA — The Chamberlain girls and Cheyenne-Eagle Butte boys claimed Region 4A cross-country championships on Thursday.

The Chamberlain girls finished with 21 points, finishing well ahead of Platte-Geddes (53) and Miller (53). The Cheyenne-Eagle Butte boys scored 35 points, just edging out Platte-Geddes (37) for the team championship. Chamberlain (54) placed third.

Individually, Chamberlain’s Grace Phillips powered the Cubs with a first-place finish. She covered the 5,000-meter distance at the Chamberlain Country Club in 20 minutes and :09 seconds. Miller’s Madeline Nye (20:41) and Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Abigail Engelland (20:56) finished second and third, respectively. Platte-Geddes’ Berklee Mills (20:57) and Chamberlain’s Silvana Houska (22:08) rounded out the top-five finishers.

On the boys side, Miller’s Pierce Baumberger (18:10) held off Cheyenne-Eagle Butte’s Jayden Taken Alive (18:30) for the individual title. Platte-Geddes’ Walter Graesser (18:33), CEB’s Xavier Sanchez-Gonzalez (18:44) and MVP’s Hudson Schmidt (19:18) rounded out the top-five runners.
