The first-round pairings include:

No. 1 Harrisburg vs. No. 8 Yankton, 11 a.m.

No. 1 Harrisburg

Record: 24-4

Road to Sioux Falls: Swept Sioux Falls Washington (16-1,13-0)

Notes: The Tigers will enter Sioux Falls Stadium having lost just two games to Class A opponents on the season, a one-run loss to Sioux Falls Lincoln on April 4 and another close bout against No. 2 O’Gorman 4-5 on April 18. … The Tigers ace Eli Kokenge has been a force on the mound, having allowed just 13 hits and seven earned runs in his 38 innings pitched on the season. Kokenge is also getting it done at the plate, batting .400 on the year with 26 RBIs and two home runs. … The weapons don’t end there with Harrisburg, nine batters for the Tigers are batting above .300 including Carter Gronseth with a staggering .410 batting average in 22 games this season. … The top seeded Tigers will take on the Yankton Bucks to open the State A tournament Friday at 11 a.m.

No. 8 Yankton

Record: 13-13

Road to Sioux Falls: 2-1 over Pierre (5-6, 4-3, 16-6)

Notes: The Bucks managed to win two straight last Saturday to earn their spot over the Pierre Governors, but the road to a championship doesn’t get any easier with their first round matchup against No. 1 Harrisburg. … Even then, Yankton didn’t face the Tigers during the regular season which can help when coming in as heavy underdogs. … Two Yankton Bucks are part of the academic all-state 1st team, senior Mount Marty Baseball commit Lucas Kampshoff as well as junior utility player Matthew Sheldon. Among Kampshoff and Sheldon, sophomore pitcher Samuel Gokie was selected to the All-Region team as well.

No. 4 O’Gorman

Record: 21-11

Road to Sioux Falls: Swept Sioux Falls Jefferson (3-0, 11-0)

Notes: The Knights enter the state tournament as the No. 4 seed but are in a good spot to capture their first championship since 2019. Having already collected wins against the two of the top three seeds in the tournament, they might be a dark horse heading into Sioux Falls. … In the month of May they’ve won nine of 10 with their only loss coming against Sioux Falls Lincoln on May 14, and have outscored opponents 69-23. … Hunter Den Boer and Sully Schlimgen have been huge at the plate this season, combining for eight home runs and 66 RBIs. On the mound, ace Jake Wheeler has a 1.7 ERA in 44 innings pitched, averaging nearly one strikeout an inning. … O’Gorman will take on Rapid City Stevens at 1 p.m. Friday at Sioux Falls Stadium.

No. 5 Rapid City Stevens

Record: 20-5

Road to Sioux Falls: Swept Rapid City Central (10-1, 18-1)

Notes: The Raiders have picked up steam in the month of May leading to a sweep of Rapid City rival-Central last weekend. … In their last 13 games, Stevens has a 11-2 record, and is outsourcing opponents 112-29. … Nine Raiders are hitting over .300 on the season, with Mason Brooks leading the way batting .418 with 14 RBIs and 13 walks on the season. … Behind Brooks, shortstop/catcher Blake Olmsted has been a slugger all year, batting .391 with two bombs and 24 RBIs. Stevens has plenty of pitching to get the job done in Sioux Falls, Colten Morlang and Luke Hanzlik have both thrown over 30 innings this season. The pitching duo has allowed just 28 hits in their 65.1 innings thrown, while striking out a combined 87 batters.

No. 2 Sioux Falls Lincoln

Record: 15-5

Road to Sioux Falls: Swept Huron (11-1, 14-0)

Notes: The Patriots are looking for their second championship in the last three years and have been nothing short of dominant in their run to the state tournament this year. Having won 15 straight games, their last loss came at the hands of a 4-6 barnburner to top-seeded Harrisburg on April 22. … In this 15 game win streak, Lincoln has allowed 31 total runs, including just 13 in their last 10 games. … The Patriots are led by two All-State 1st-teamers, pitcher Cade Watson and Sawyer Mindt, as well as three All-State 2nd-team members, catcher Brayden Olson, infielder Nate Motl, and shortstop Sawyer Tolk. Sioux Falls Lincoln will face Sioux Falls Roosevelt, a team they most recently beat 13-4 on May 13, to open the afternoon slate on Friday at 5 p.m.

No. 7 Sioux Falls Roosevelt

Record: 8-13

Road to Sioux Falls: Swept Brookings (3-1, 5-4)

Notes: The Rough Riders have had a lackluster season but were still able to qualify for the state tournament after sweeping Brookings last weekend. … Roosevelt enters Sioux Falls Stadium on a four game win streak, sweeping Mitchell on May 7 and Brookings on May 17-18. Despite the 8-13 record, the Rough Riders have had some close calls against some of the top teams in the state, including two-run losses to Brandon Valley and Harrisburg, as well as four-run losses to the top seeded Tigers and the Lincoln Patriots. … Roosevelt is led by junior 1st team All-State infielder/pitcher Jacob Mongar, who threw five shutout innings last Friday in a win over Brookings.

No. 3 Brandon Valley

Record: 18-12-1

Road to Sioux Falls: Swept Mitchell (3-1,4-3)

Notes: The Lynx are looking for their first championship since 2018 and will need to find some momentum to get the job done. … Brandon Valley took four straight losses in the regular season to Sioux Falls Lincoln as well as Dell Rapids before hosting Mitchell in the Super Regional, sweeping the Kernels in back-to-back close games. … Brandon Valley should feel confident heading into their first round matchup where they take on Tea Area to close out the quarterfinals, as they’ve already defeated the defending class B state champions in a double header 12-0 and 12-7 back on May 3. … Brandon Valley earned just one selection on the All-State list, 1st team All-State pitcher Aiden Zerr. The junior right-hander earned a complete game victory in game one of the super regional, allowing just one run in seven innings pitched.

No. 6 Tea Area

Record: 14-14

Road to Sioux Falls: Swept Sturgis Brown (15-0, 9-1)

Notes: The Tea Area Titans will attempt a near impossible feat, winning a state championship in their first season playing class A baseball. … But it should be noted this group isn’t unfamiliar with the Bird Cage, having won gold just last season at the class B level. But now the Titans enter a whole new atmosphere with some of the best teams in the state, including the No. 3 seeded Lynx. … Tea Area had just one player selected to the All-State team, 2nd team All-State pitcher Clayton Schwebach. The junior has been getting it done on the mound and at the plate for the Titans this season, most recently striking out 14 and adding a hit and two walks as the lead-off batter in their state qualifying win over the Sturgis Brown Scoopers.
