At the 2023 South Dakota Class B state wrestling championships Redfield’s Grady Fey felt the agony of defeat, losing to Canton’s Traun Cook in extra time in the finals.

At last week’s McCook Central Montrose tournament, Fey, a recently signed Northern State athlete, turned the tables, pinning Cook at the 5:57 mark of their finals match. For his efforts Fey moved up to the No. 1 ranking (285) and also earned wrestler of the week honors.

It was a good week for the Redfield wrestlers who gained ten team points in the weekly rankings and are pegged as the 10th best team in the Class B ranks.

Canton dominated the MCM tournament and remained the top ranked Class B team earning 178 points, ahead of Philip Area (135) and Custer (113). Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes (104) and Winner Area (95) round out the top-five teams.
