SIOUX FALLS — Walking into the state meet on Thursday, Custer’s Jordyn Larsen was wearing a boot on her foot.

On Saturday, the Wildcat senior walked away with three Class A gold medals, a silver medal and one All-Class gold.

“Going into state with a boot affected my mental part going in, but I trusted training and after competing in the prelims, I felt pretty good mentally and got over that mental block,” Larsen said.

On the last day of the state track Jordyn started the morning off winning the Class A 100-meter dash with a time of 11.79, earning Larsen the All-Class gold medal too.

“She had won so many medals, but had never been champion,” Custer head coach Karen Karim said of Larsen. “It's just awesome. She's had the best senior year we could have possibly imagined for her.”

“It’s crazy just because this year so many PRs, so many girls that I’ve grown to be friends with that were all setting PRs every single time — faster and faster, state records,” Larsen said of winning the All-Class gold. “So just finishing on top, that makes me think of all the stuff that I’ve done to get here.”

Following the 100-meter dash, Larsen anchored the Wildcats' 800-meter relay team that finished second in the event behind Sioux Falls Christian with a time of 1:44.78. Sioux Falls Christian ran a 1:43.81.

Then she competed in the 400-meter relay, again anchoring for the Wildcats, helping them win the gold in a season-best 49.14.

“I know no matter where we get, I’m gonna give it my all,” Larsen said. “They (my teammates) got me there and I can finish it. “

To cap off the day for Larsen, she once again found herself in a battle for first place in the 200-meter dash. Larsen edged Lennox’s Bergan Musser for first place with a time of 24.64 to Musser’s 24.92.

“It feels so good,” Larsen said of winning her final race of the day. “It doesn’t feel real. As soon as I see my teammates, I’m going to start crying. But I just know everything has paid off. It feels pretty dang cool.”

Larsen is headed to the University of South Dakota in the fall to join the Coyotes track team.

Coach Karim said the team is proud of the adversity Larsen has overcome to earn her gold medals.

“We’re so excited for her and coming out on top at the end showed everybody what she can do.”
