Dakota Valley’s Isaac Bruns and Randy Rosenquist engineered a Class A boys basketball powerhouse.

The senior guards were instrumental in the Panthers’ back-to-back Class A state championships and a Class A record 53-game winning streak. As a result, they were selected to the Class A all-state first team for the second straight season. Bruns is the Class A boys basketball player of the year. The all-state teams were selected by the South Dakota High School Basketball Coaches Association.

They’re joined on the first team by St. Thomas More’s Caleb Hollenbeck, Sioux Valley’s Oliver Vincent, Lennox’s Porter Ihnen and Sioux Falls Christian’s Ethan Bruns.

Isaac Bruns, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, was also a first-team selection as a sophomore in 2021. This season, he logged 26.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Bruns poured in a school-record 46 points against Elk Point-Jefferson this season. He finished with 2,309 career points, the 15th most in South Dakota boys basketball history. Bruns will play college basketball at the University of South Dakota, where his brother, Paul, is a sophomore guard for the Coyotes.

A 6-foot-1 point guard, Rosenquist played with flair and style for the Panthers. He averaged 13.8 points, 8.8 assists and 6.9 rebounds per game, while he added 80 steals on defense. Rosenquist regularly stuffed the stat sheet, including 11 points, 10 rebounds and 16 assists in Dakota Valley’s state tournament opener vs. Hot Springs. Rosenquist will play college basketball at Dakota Wesleyan University.

Hollenbeck was a second-team selection last season. He guided the Cavaliers to a sixth-place finish at the Class A state tournament. A 6-foot-3 senior forward, Hollenbeck logged 24.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. He scored his 1,000th career point this season.

Vincent is making his third consecutive first-team selection. The 6-foot-1 guard logged 20 points, seven assists and six rebounds per game for the Cossacks. Vincent finished as Sioux Valley’s all-time leader in points (1,874) and assists (557). He added 233 career steals and 225 career 3-pointers made. Vincent led the Cossacks to a fifth-place finish at the Class A state tournament.

Ihnen scored his 1,000th career point this season. Ihnen has scholarship offers from the University of South Dakota and South Dakota State University.

Ethan Bruns is making his first-ever appearance on an all-state team. Bruns led Sioux Falls Christian to the Class A runner-up finish, after averaging 17 points and seven rebounds per game this season.

The second team members include Winner’s Blake Volmer, Dell Rapids’ Brayden Pankonen, Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Reed Rus, Madison’s Aiden Jensen, Sioux Valley’s Alec Squires and Hanson’s Ethan Cheeseman.

The third team consists of Waubay-Summit’s Damon Opdahl, Elk Point-Jefferson’s Easton Kempf, Hamlin’s Easton Neuendorf, Tea Area’s Blake Thompson, Hamlin’s Tyson Stevenson and Beresford’s Tate VanOtterloo.
