De Smet sweeps team titles at Howard Tiger Relays

HOWARD — The De Smet track and field teams swept titles at Tuesday’s Howard Tiger Relays. 

The De Smet boys ran away with the team title scoring 198 points, ahead of Canistota (100) and Howard (65), while the De Smet girls secured the team title with 135 points, ahead of McCook Central/Montrose (115) and Iroquois/Lake Preston (114).

In the girls meet, Brooklyn Becker secured titles in four events. Becker won the 100-meter (:13.33), 200-meter (:27.50), 400-meter (1:02.98) and triple jump (31-05.50) events Tuesday.

De Smet’s Aubree Blue won the 800-meter run (2:39.68) while teammate Cambria Gross secured the 1,600-meter run (6:17.13).

Canistota’s Gabbie Eichmann won the 3,200-meter run (14:50.44).

McCook Central/Montrose’s Ellie Stofferahn swept the hurdle events, earning first place in both the 100-meter (:16.20) and 300-meter (:50.85) hurdle races.

Canistota’s quartet of Ellie Becker, Adrian DeHaan, Abbi Janzen and Ellia Hjermstad won the 400-meter relay (:52.14).

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Sawyer Larson, Lainey Goertz, Liz Boschee and Emrie VonEye took first in the 1,600-meter relay.

De Smet secured three relays, with Hazel Luethmers, Charli McCune, Payden Coughlin and Gemma Luethmers winning the 800-meter relay (1:53.65).

Gross, Bella Wilkinson, Vada Albrecht and Blue won the 3,200-meter relay (10:41.72), while McCune, Wilkinson, Hazel and Gemma Luethmers secured the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay (4:35.19).

In the field events, Iroquois/Lake Preston’s Hadlee Holt secured titles in the shot put (40-05.50) and discus (128-01) events.

Sanborn Central/Woonsocket’s Boschee won the high jump event (4-10).

De Smet’s Adalyn Gross took the top spot in the long jump event (16-01.50).

In the boys' meet, De Smet’s Rogan Albrecht won three events in the 100-meter (:11.37), 200-meter (:23.08) and 400-meter (:52.32) races.

Howard’s Caden Schwader secured first place in the 800-meter run (2:15.93).

Iroquois/Lake Preston’s Case Carlson won the 1,600-meter (5:02.88) and 3,200-meter (11:35.04) events.

De Smet’s Owen Anderson won both the 110-meter hurdles (:16.84) and 300-meter hurdles (:43.16).

Canistota’s quartet of Carter Becker, Dayne Krinke, Koda Popkes and Caleb Schroeder secured the 400-meter relay (:47.35).

Howard’s Korbin Shumaker, Schwader, Noah Severson and Kolt Becker won the 800-meter relay (1:38.49).

De Smet’s Anderson, Albrecht, Ayden Behm and Grant Griffith secured the 1,600-meter relay (3:46.46).

Bridgewater-Emery’s Carter Glanzer, Traxton Jatczak, Mason Uptagrafft and Carson Bartscher won the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay (4:14.92).

In the field events, Grant Wilkinson won the shot put (47-11.00) for De Smet.

McCook Central/Montrose’s Jared Elcock won the high jump (5-07) while teammate Owen Schmidt won both the long jump (19-06.50) and triple jump (38-06.50) events.

Oldham-Ramona/Rutland’s Brennon Bickett secured the discus event (143-10).
