Boys basketball

Sioux Valley 71, Baltic 33

BALTIC — Hayden Ruesink and Oliver Vincent each scored in double-figures as Sioux Valley cruised past Baltic for a boys basketball win on Wednesday. Vincent scored his 1,000th career point in the win. 

Ruesink finished with a game-high 24 points, along with seven rebounds, while Vincent tallied 15 points and six assists. Alec Squires collected 14 rebounds and scored seven points. He added three assists, three blocked shots and three steals. Connor Gross added eight points. Parker Puetz dished out seven assists and grabbed six boards. 

Gunner Shultz led Baltic with nine points, while Mark Ditter scored eight points.


Wessington Springs 53, Highmore-Harrold 43

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Mason Schelske recorded a monster double-double to pace Wessington Springs to a boys basketball win over Highmore-Harrold on Wednesday.

Schelske finished with 28 points, 18 rebounds and dished out three assists. Cade Mohling followed with eight points, while Blake Larson added six points, four rebounds and four assists. A.J. Neely had six assists and four points. Bryce Kopfmann had four points and four rebounds.

Highmore-Harrold’s Mason Knox finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Carter LaMont scored eight points, while Treyton Knox had six points and four rebounds. Carson Stephenson scored five points. 


Girls basketball 

Wolsey-Wessington 56, Redfield 39

HURON — Wolsey-Wessington pulled away from Redfield for a girls basketball win at the Huron Classic on Wednesday. 

Wolsey-Wessington’s Leah Williams finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Hailey Clarke added 14 points, while Mya Boomsma scored 13 points. 

Redfield’s Chelsea Smith and Katie Rozell scored 10 points apiece. Gracie Fast and Ashlyn Clausen had six points apiece, while Clausen grabbed five rebounds and had four steals. 


Chester Area 78, Iroquois/Doland 42

HURON — Emmerson Eppard poured in 31 points to power Chester Area to a girls basketball win over Iroquois/Doland at the Huron Classic on Wednesday. 

Eppard added seven steals and five rebounds. Emery Larson finished with 21 points, while Jacy Wolf scored 10 points. Lexis Siemonsma finished with seven points. 

Iroquois/Doland’s Katie Dubro logged 17 points and nine rebounds. Dubro also scored her 1,000th career point in the win. Rebecca Bich chipped in with 10 points. Taylynn Iron Hawk, Ann Decker and Kera Dubro scored five points apiece. 


James Valley Christian 52, Lyman 42

HURON — James Valley Christian used a strong second half to pull away from Lyman for a girls basketball win Wednesday at the Huron Classic. 

Brenna Held led all scorers with 22 points. Alexa Gortez finished with six points and seven rebounds. Kaylie Robinson and Karilyn Wieting combined for 15 points. 

Mak Scott led Lyman with 17 points and eight rebounds. Skyler Volmer added 11 points while pulling down eight rebounds. 


Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 49, Lower Brule 38

HURON — Sanborn Central/Woonsocket picked up a girls basketball win over Lower Brule on Wednesday at the Huron Classic.

Trista White led all scorers with 20 points. Trinity Boschee finished with 11 points, Teya Moody added seven points.

Courtney St. Cloud led Lower Brule with 19 points and eight rebounds. Marley Sazue finished with 11 points, while Brilyn LaRoche added six points.


De Smet 46, Jones County 37

HURON — Two players scored in double figures as De Smet picked up a girls basketball win over Jones County at the Huron Classic on Wednesday.

Kennadi Buchholz led all scorers with 19 points and six rebounds, while Emma Albrecht finished with 11 points. Hazel Luethmers added eight points.

Jadyn Jensen led Jones County with 17 points, while Mallory Valburg scored 14 points.


Howard 41, Faulkton Area 35

HURON — Howard picked up a girls basketball win over Faulkton Area at the Huron Classic on Wednesday.

Kate Connor led Howard with 15 points and eight rebounds. Rylee Rudebusch finished with 10 points.

Faulkton Area’s Isabel Aesoph led all scorers with 18 points, while Shayna Heitmann tallied nine points.


Colman-Egan 52, Warner 41

HURON — Colman-Egan had two players in double figures as they earned a girls basketball win over Warner at the Huron Classic on Wednesday.

Mackenzie Hemmer recorded a game-high 19 points, while Josie Mousel added 18 points and six rebounds. Lanie Mousel scored nine points.

For Warner, Kyra Marcuson tallied 12 points. Lauren Marcuson recorded 10 points and Kamryn Anderson added nine points and seven rebounds.


Estelline/Hendricks 39, Northwestern 24

ESTELLINE — Estelline/Hendricks outscored Northwestern in every quarter to earn a girls basketball win Wednesday. 

Sadie Johnson finished with 16 points and four steals. Kenzy Beare had seven points, ten rebounds and six steals. Kate Wegner added ten points and six steals.

Ashley Haven and Ella Haven combined for 16 points for Northwestern. 


Sioux Valley 59, Baltic 48

BALTIC — Sioux Valley earned a girls basketball win over Baltic on Wednesday.

Isabelle Bloker led the Cossacks with 21 points and five rebounds, while Reagan Johnson finished with 10 points and five boards. Julia Schneider added nine points and six assists.

Baltic was led by Cami Artz, who finished with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Berklee Erickson finished with 13 points.
