Two prolific scoring seniors and a quartet of talented underclassmen make up this year’s Class AA girls basketball all-state first team.

Rapid City Stevens’ Taaliyah Porter and Pierre’s Lennix DuPris are the lone seniors on the Class AA all-state first team, which was selected by the South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association. Porter and DuPris are joined on the first team by Brandon Valley junior Alyvia Padgett, O’Gorman junior Sydney Terveen, Jefferson sophomore Brinley Altenburg and O’Gorman sophomore Ruby Moore.

As the leading Class AA all-state vote getter, Padgett is the Class AA player of the year. Padgett is making her second consecutive Class AA first-team selection.

A 5-foot-7 junior guard, Padgett averaged 18.8 points, 3.6 assists, 3.4 rebounds and three steals per game for the Class AA runner-up Lynx (21-3). She 86% from the free-throw line, 49% from the field and 40% from the 3-point line this season.

Padgett has tallied 982 points, 233 rebounds, 223 assists, 137 steals and 40 3-pointers so far in her career. Padgett has verbally committed to play college at Division II power Minnesota State University-Mankato.

“She’s a star,” Brandon Valley coach Mike Zerr said. “She continues to grow as a player and person. As physical a guard as they come, sees the game in such a unique way. She became a two-way star on both offense and defense this year and has worked to become a 3-level scorer, too. She is the relentless floor leader of our highly successful team, and creates problems with her pace, vision, and physicality for everyone we play.”

Porter is making her second consecutive Class AA all-state first-team selection, while she was a second-team honoree in 2023. She guided Stevens to a fourth-place finish at the Class AA girls basketball tournament.

A 5-foot-8 senior guard, Porter averaged 22.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game for the Raiders (17-7) this season. She shot 83.4% from the free-throw line and 48% from the field. Porter scored 1,667 career points, the most in Rapid City Stevens basketball history and sixth all-time on the Class AA girls basketball scoring list. She added 632 rebounds, 205 assists and 201 steals during her career.

“Taaliyah is a great all-around basketball player that has been a constant presence in our varsity gym since her eighth-grade year,” Rapid City Stevens coach Adam Dannenbring said. “She has been one of the key pieces to our program that has gone to the state tournament in each of her four years of starting for the Raiders.”

Terveeen and Moore powered O’Gorman to its second consecutive Class AA girls basketball championship, including a 50-game winning streak. A 5-foot-10 junior guard, Terveen averaged 15.5 points, 4.1 assists, 2.8 assists and 2.5 steals per game this season. She shot 45% from the field, 34% from the 3-point line and 87% from the free-throw line. She’s logged 653 points, 248 rebounds, 140 assists and 140 steals through three seasons of varsity basketball.

“Sydney had an excellent year and played with a lot of confidence,” O’Gorman coach Kent Kolsrud said. “She is a dynamic playmaker on both ends of the court. Her ability to pressure defensively, run in transition, and create offensive production is superb. She makes big plays when her team needs them the most.”

A 5-foot-8 sophomore guard, Moore sparked the Knights in the state championship with five points in the closing seconds to secure the victory. She averaged 14 points, 3.9 steals, 3.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game this season. She shot 80% from the free-throw line, 46% from the field and 38% from the 3-point line. Through two seasons of varsity basketball, Moore has tallied 449 points, 126 steals, 125 rebounds and 110 assists. She has verbally committed to play college basketball at South Dakota State University.

Ruby was our floor general and had a great sophomore season,” Kolsrud said. “She has a high basketball IQ and makes big plays when the lights are shining the brightest. Her ability to shoot the ball from the 3-point line is excellent and she has a very good mid-range game.”

A 5-foot-6 senior guard, DuPris was a second-team all-state selection last season. This season, she averaged 17.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. She totaled 113 assists, a Pierre girls basketball single-season record. She added 83 steals this season and set the single-season Pierre record for steals last season (93). DuPris, who finished with 1,032 career points, helped lead the Governors to three consecutive state tournament appearances.

“Lennix has been instrumental in putting Pierre girls basketball in the conversation of top AA programs in South Dakota,” Pierre coach Kirk Beebout said. “She has put in the work to put her skills at an all-state level and she impacts winning in all areas as evident by her numbers.”

A 5-foot-10 sophomore guard, Altenburg averaged 16.3 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals per game this season. She shot 35% from the field, 79% from the free-throw line and nailed 47 3-pointers this season. She was a first-team all-stater last season.

Altenburg has received scholarship offers from Division I programs Iowa, Iowa State, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State, Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska, Michigan State and Purdue, among others.
