SIOUX FALLS — For the first time in 14 years the Sturgis Scoopers are hoisting the Class A wrestling title. 

Sturgis had just one champion Zak Juelfs (215) but the depth of 12 wrestlers reaching the podium was just too much for any other A team to match. 

The Scoopers scored 197.5 points, ahead of Pierre (176) and Aberdeen Central (139). West Central (127) and Brandon Valley (123.5) rounded out the top-five teams Saturday.

Pierre had a fantastic tournament with three Governor grapplers bringing home individual titles. Tristan Spencer (138), Lucas Chamberlain (165) and Chance Carda (190) all won titles for Pierre.

Brandon Valley finished with two champions as Brendon Oehme (113) and Navarro Schunke (285) won titles Saturday. Schunke became the first South Dakota Class A wrestler to win five individual titles. 

Other state titles went to Rapid City Central’s Pierce Hurd (106), Watertown’s Gage Lohr (120), Aberdeen Central’s Rayden Zens (126), Sioux Falls Lincoln’s Bentley Williams (132), Rapid City Stevens’ Jacob Williams (144), Huron’s Moses Gross (150), Rapid City Central’s Zach Soderlin (157) and Tea Area’s Sam Werdel (175)

Lohr and Gross both have two state titles to their names.
