Elkton-Lake Benton sweeps team titles at Vince Relays

ELKTON — The Elkton-Lake Benton boys racked up 298 points, well ahead of De Smet (154.5) and Flandreau (126.5) to capture the team title at Saturday’s Vince Relays.

The Elkton-Lake Benton girls scored 184.5 points, ahead of De Smet (142) and Flandreau (124.5) to claim the girls title at the same track meet. 

Elkton-Lake Benton senior Quinten Poindexter claimed three first place finishes to help lead the Elks to the boys team title at Saturday’s Vince Relays

Poindexter won the 100-meter dash (:11.81), the high jump (6-0) and ran the anchor leg on the Elks’ winning 1,600-meter relay team (3:45.85). 

Nate Timm was a double-winner for the Elks winning the 1,600-meter run (5:03.97) and 3200-meter run (11:57.99). Blake DeVries won the 110-meter hurdles (:17.24) and 300-meter hurdles (:43.13). Tanner Drietz won the long jump (20-01.25) and triple jump (40-11). Elkton-Lake Benton also had wins from Tanner Stein in the 400-meter dash (:54.35), Joseph Nibbe in the 800-meter run (2:15.85), Taiton Boersma in the shot put (45-00.75) and  Eliot Erickson in the pole-vault (11-00).

De Smet’s Ganon Henrich finished second in the 100-meter dash (:11.91), won the 200-meter dash (:23.95) and anchored the Bulldogs 400-meter relay team to a first place finish (:46.42)

In girls action, freshman Sydney DeVries paced Elkton-Lake Benton winning the 100-meter dash (:13.69), the 200-meter dash (:28.24) and finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles (:18.25).

Flandreau’s Faith Wiese was a double-winner claiming titles in the 800-meter run (2:26.55) and 1,600-meter run (5:24.59). The Flier girls also picked up wins from Kiley Westberry in the 400-meter dash (1:05.41) and Josie Hamilton in the 3,200-meter run (13:05.51). Sadie Lott was a double-winner for Flandreau winning the long jump (14-01) and triple jump (32-00.75). 

The De Smet girls looked strong in the field events picking up wins from Audi Currier in the discus (97-08), Ivey Schoenfelder in the javelin (76-08) and Hazel Luethmers in the high jump (4-10).
