Watertown captures Region 1A wrestling title

MADISON — Behind five region champions and 13 state qualifiers the Watertown Arrows captured the Region 1A wrestling tournament on Saturday. 

The Arrows racked up 256 points ahead of West Central (206) and Tea Area (190). Brookings (174.5) and Sioux Falls O’Gorman (129) rounded out the top five teams. 

Gage Lohr (106), Sloan Johannsen (120), Ian Johnson (152), Brock Eitreim (195) and Micah Hach all claimed individual titles for Watertown.

West Central had two champions, Karson Vessells (113) and Chandler Carda (145). 

Brookings had two champions, Tyson Brandt (182) and James Olson (220). 

Tea Area also had two champions, Maddix Slykhuis (126) and Sam Werdel (170).

Other Individual championships were claimed by Madison’s Caleb Hodges (132), Sioux Falls Jefferson’s Ayden Dooley (138) and Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Keenan Sheridan (160).

Pierre Governors capture Region 3A wrestling title

MISSION — Behind six region champions and 14 state qualifiers the Pierre Governors wrestled their way to the Region 2A title on Saturday. 

PIerre racked up 274.5 points ahead of Aberdeen Central (244) and Chamberlain (125). Mitchell (123) and Sisseton (116.5) rounded out the top five teams. 

Alex Oedkoven (113), Tristan Spencer (138), Deegan Houska (160), Chance Carda (182), Gavin Stotts (195) and Joshua Rydberg (285) all won individual titles for Pierre. 

Sisseton had two champions, Ian Metz (120) and Holden Hawkins (132). 

MIlbank also had two champions, Owen Fischer (106) and Barrett Schneck (170). 

Other individual champions went to Aberdeen Central’s Rayden Zens (126), Huron’s Moses Gross (145), Mitchell’s Jagger Tyler (152) and Chamberlain’s Noah Hutmacher (220).

Sturgis wins Region 4A and will be sending 14 wrestlers to the state tournament

RAPID CITY — Behind nine regional champions and 14 state qualifiers Sturgis claimed Saturday’s Region 4A wrestling title. 

The Scoopers put up 294.5 points, ahead of Rapid City Stevens (256.5) and Rapid City Central (168). Spearfish (127) and Douglas/Rapid City Christian/New Underwood rounded out the top five teams. 

Korbin Bunch (106), Teryn Zebroski (113), Tegan Zebroski (120), Dee Daniels (126), Thayne Elshere (138), Kalvin Ketelsen (145), Preston Ray (170), Reese Jacobs (182), Aiden Werlinger (195) and Zak Juelfs (220) all won regional titles Saturday. 

Rapid City Stevens also had a strong day with four regional champions. Corbin Zent (120), Joe Juenger (132), Corter Doney (152) and Kaiden Strong (285) won region titles for the Raiders. 

The other individual champion was Rapid City Central’s Zack Soderlin
