Jan. 2 Basketball Roundup - Vermillion upsets No. 4 Tea Area behind Brooke Jensen’s 34 points

Girls

Vermillion 62, Tea Area 34

TEA — Vermillion upset Class A No. 4 Tea Area in girls basketball action on Monday. 

Vermillion’s Brooke Jensen posted 34 points, four rebounds and four 3-pointers. Chandler Cleveland added 13 points. 

Tea Area’s Mara Grant finished with 15 points and seven rebounds. Miah Weber and Rylan Konrad scored five points apiece. Stella Peterson collected nine rebounds. 


Boys

Northwestern 68, Waverly-South Shore 35

MELLETTE — Four players scored in double figures as Northwestern raced past Waverly-South Shore for a boys basketball win.

Northwestern’s Chase Neiber led with 15 points, seven rebounds, and four steals. Quintin Fischbach, Lincoln Woodring, and Jude Ortmeier each had 11 points, while Ortmeier grabbed nine rebounds.

WSS was led by Troy Kneeland with seven points and five rebounds, while Grant Holman and Landon Maag each had six points.  


Tea Area 54, Vermillion 22

TEA — Three players scored in double figures to pace Tea Area to a boys basketball win on Monday. 

Blake Thompson scored a game-high 17 points, dished out five assists, collected three steals and hit three 3-pointers. Reis Kirschenman and Garrett Wiebenga scored 10 points apiece. Kirschenman grabbed five boards. Sam Almas and Jessen Wiebenga scored six points apiece. Wiebenga collected six rebounds, while Jonah Kocer and Boston Willemssen also had six rebounds apiece. 

Vermillion’s Carter Hansen had nine points and five rebounds.
