Mitchell 57, Sioux Falls Lincoln 51

MITCHELL — Class AA No. 2 Mitchell held off Sioux Falls Lincoln for a boys basketball win on Thursday.

Mitchell’s Colton Smith tossed in a game-high 18 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Gavin Soukup logged 16 points and hit four 3-pointers. Markus Talley scored 13 points and collected six boards. Gavin Hinker scored six points. 

Lincoln’s Braxton Mohr netted 17 points and Tate Schafer scored 14 points. Schafer added five rebounds and three 3-pointers. Garry Crowe posted 10 points and six rebounds. 

Wessington Springs 61, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 47 

HURON — Three players scored in double figures to pace Wessington Springs to the 281 Conference boys basketball championship on Thursday.

Parker Graff finished with 24 points and nailed six 3-pointers. Ryder Michalek added 16 points and Blake Larson scored 11 points. Colby Flowers added six points.

For SCW, Bryce Larson and McCoy Schulz scored nine points apiece. Trey Moody, Cody Slykhuis and Landon Jensen scored six points apiece. Jeff Boschee and Payton Uecker added five points apiece. 

Wolsey-Wessington 64, James Valley Christian 49 

HURON — Three players scored in double figures as Wolsey-Wessington captured third-place at the 281 Conference boys basketball tournament on Thursday.

Tate French finished with 22 points, 12 rebounds and hit three 3-pointers. Caleb Richmond and Moshe Richmond scored 15 and 13 points, respectively. Payton Rainford added eight points. Moshe Richmond had 10 rebounds and four steals, while Caleb Richmond had five rebounds. Rainford added five assists. 

For JVC, Jerrad Wallman scored 15 points. Davis Chase recorded 13 points, while Isaac Korell had seven points. Dax Frandsen and Gavin Waldner scored six points apiece. Wallman and Chase had eight rebounds apiece. 


Highmore-Harrold 67, Hitchcock-Tulare 53

HURON — Highmore-Harrold picked up a fifth-place finish at the 281 Conference boys basketball tournament on Thursday.

Highmore-Harrold’s Trake Cowan scored 22 points. Aiden Ferens and Aitor Ortega posted 14 points apiece. Carson Stephenson scored eight points and Miles McPeak had six points. Cowan had nine rebounds. 

For Hitchcock-Tulare, Patrick Maynard scored 19 points and Erik Salmen logged 15 points. Jackson Maynard scored 11 points. Jackson Maynard grabbed seven rebounds. Salmen and Patrick Maynard hauled in six rebounds apiece. 


Iroquois/Lake Preston 66, Sunshine Bible Academy 61 (OT)

HURON — Josh McMasters and Lucas Peskey combined for 40 points as Iroquois/Lake Preston claimed seventh-place at the 281 Conference boys basketball tournament on Thursday.

McMasters knocked down five 3-pointers and finished with 23 points, five rebounds and three steals. Peskey added 17 points, six rebounds and three steals. Daunte Glanzer chipped in with nine points. 

Trey Thieman powered Sunshine Bible Academy with 23 points, eight rebounds, five steals and six assists. Dominic Kalcinski added 15 points and 12 rebounds while Henrik Wipf chipped in with seven points. 

Hamlin 83, Redfield 19 

REDFIELD — Four players scored in double figures as Hamlin picked up a boys basketball win on Thursday.

Tyson Stevenson finished with 14 points, while Easton Neuendorf scored 11 points. Jackson Wadsworth and Jameson Nebel had 10 points apiece. Aiden Abraham scored nine points, while Dawson Noem and Evan Stormo scored eight points apiece. Ted Smith scored six points.

For Redfield, Tristen O’Daniel scored nine points and Justin Ratigan had six points.

Leola-Frederick Area 69, Northwestern 31

FREDERICK — Leola-Frederick Area picked up a boys basketball win over Northwestern on Thursday.

Leola-Frederick Area’s Brayden Sumption recorded 20 points and hit four 3-pointers, while Noah Kippley scored 12 points. Westyn Thorpe added eight points. Winston Clark and Jace Thorpe scored seven points apiece. Milo Sumption and Ethan Petrich scored five points apiece.

For Northwestern, Nathan Melius scored 13 points. Jack Hansen added eight points. 

Lennox 49, West Central 43

HARTFORD — Lennox edged West Central for a boys basketball win on Thursday.

Lennox’s Braxton Musser scored 19 points and Tate Gerdes added 14 points.

For West Central, Crew Heier had 15 points. Jake Kuhl added seven points and eight boards.

Brandon Valley 57, Pierre 47

PIERRE — Brandon Valley held off Pierre for a boys basketball win on Thursday.

Brandon Valley’s Josh Olthoff recorded 17 points, while Aiden Zerr logged 13 points. Brayden Miller had 10 points. Landon Dulaney scored seven points and Hayden Anderson scored six points.

For Pierre, Luke Olson scored a game-high 21 points. Jett Zabel added 11 points and Dawson Getz scored eight points. 


Sioux Falls Washington 57, Marshall, Minn., 42

SIOUX FALLS — Three players scored in double figures to pace Class AA No. 5 Sioux Falls Washington to a boys basketball win on Thursday.

Washington’s Thomas Hoffman finished with 13 points and four rebounds. Lubab Kambalo finished with 12 points on four 3-pointers. Jhace Woods added 11 points and six rebounds. Samuel Baskin finished with nine points and six rebounds. Lucas Johnson scored seven points, while Brennan VerHey had seven points.
