MADISON — Class B’s second ranked Canton mixed it up with mostly Class A schools at Saturday’s Dakota XII Wrestling Tournament and came out on top. 

The C-Hawks scored 267 points, ahead of West Central (191.5) and Tea Area (164.5). Tri-Valley (124.5) and Madison (111) rounded out the top-five teams. 

Canton had five individual champions as Carter Kendrick (106), Landon Walker (113), Ayson Rice (150), Aidan Kranz (157) and Traun Cook (285) all stood on top of the podium.

Other champions were Tea Area’s Tyler Woodring (120), West Central’s Karson Vessells (126), West Central’s Orlando Whiting (132), Madison’s Caleb Hodges (138), Dakota Valley’s Jackson Boonstra (144), West Central’s Chandler Carda (165), Tea Area’s Sam Werdel, West Central’s Gabe Gebhard (190) and West Central’s Chandler Carda (215). 

Canton girls dominate action at Dakota X11 Wrestling Tournament

West Central(48) and Dell Rapids (43) rounded out the top-five teams.

Canton had seven champions as Finley Evjen (100), Jewel Gannon (107), Sara Schroder (114), Jersey Folkens (132), Lakynn Qualseth (138), Kaylee Dean (152) and Kiara King (250) all won titles. 

Other champions were Tea Area’s Lainey Haines (120), Dell Rapids’ Rylee Bird (126), West Central’s Hailey Fortney (145), Madison’s A Ziyah Meredith (165) and Tea Area’s Brianna Johnson (185). 


Miller/Highmore-Harrold wrestlers claim title at Parkston Little B tournament

PARKSTON — Behind two individual champions the Miller/Highmore-Harrold wrestlers won the team title at Saturday’s Parkston Little B tournament. 

Miller/Highmore-Harrold amassed 186.5 points to edge Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes (166) and Clark/Willow Lake (135). McCook Central/Montrose (134) and Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington (134) tied for fourth place. 

Miller/Highmore-Harrold’s champions were Chase Hurd (106) and Kellen Hurd (138). Kellen Hurd avenged an earlier loss in the season with a 3-2 win over Webster Area’s Haeden Jorgenson. 

Kimball/White Lake/Platte-Geddes had four champions as Kasen Konstanz (120), Gavin Braun (126), Johnny Lenz (132) and Iden Myers (144) all won titles on Saturday. 

Other South Dakota champions were Jacksen Carter (113) of Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington, Parkston’s Carter Sommer (150), Howard’s Jackson Remmers (157), McCook Central/Montrose’s Carter Randall (165), Clark/Willow Lake’s Josh Kannegieter (175), McCook Central/Montrose’s Will Rotert, Holden Havlik (215) of Wessington Springs/Woonsocket/Wolsey-Wessington. 


Sioux Falls O’Gorman wrestlers come out on top at River City Rumble

CHAMBERLAIN — Sioux Falls O’Gorman racked up 172.5 points, ahead of Milbank (143) and Sisseton (128.5) to win Saturday’s River City Rumble in Chamberlain. Huron (113.5) and Upton, Wyo (109) rounded out the top-five teams. 

O’Gorman had two wrestlers claim titles as keenan Sheridan (175) and Daniel Vazquez (285) each won titles. 

Other championships that went to South Dakota athletes were Milbank’s Evan Folk (106), Milbank’s Owen Fischer (120), Sisseton’s Ian Metz (126), Yankton’s Dylan Sloan (138), Sisseton’s Holden Hawkins (144), Huron’s Moses Gross (150), Chamberlain’s Bryce Reuer (157), Douglas/Rapid City Christian/New Underwood’s Casen Tibbetts (165), Sisseton’s Mason Shultz (190) and Huron’s pierBryan Ramirez (215).
