March 4 Boys Basketball Roundup - Mitchell earns third consecutive Class AA state tourney berth

Mitchell 62, Watertown 44 

MITCHELL — Mitchell qualified for its third consecutive Class AA boys basketball tournament with a SoDak 16 boys basketball win over Watertown on Saturday. 

Mitchell’s Dylan Soulek netted 16 points and hit four 3-pointers. Colton Smith scored 14 points. Steele Morgan added nine points and six boards. Aiden Myers and Charlie McCardle scored seven points apiece. Markus Talley tallied six points. 

Watertown's Dylon Rawdon scored 13 points, while Jake Olson added 11 points and six rebounds. Will Engstrom scored nine points. Dalton Baumberger had six points. 


Pierre 64, Sioux Falls O’Gorman 49 

PIERRE — Pierre punched its ticket to the Class AA boys basketball tournament with a SoDak 16 boys basketball win on Saturday. 

Pierre’s Jackson Edman logged 18 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. Lincoln Kienholz added 13 points. Benjamin Heisler scored 11 points and Brecken Krueger added 10 points. Jacob Mayer had eight points. 

Sioux Falls O’Gorman’s Radley Mauney tossed in 18 points and Zander Benz scored 15 points. Matthew Eng added 10 points. 


Yankton 68, Aberdeen Central 52 

YANKTON — Yankton pulled away from Aberdeen Central to secure a Class AA boys basketball tournament berth on Saturday. 

Yankton’s Drew Ryken finished with 21 points, while Mac Ryken added 19 points. Mac Ryken scored 17 points. 

Aberdeen Central’s Jett Carlson and Spencer Barr scored 13 points apiece. Grant Fritz finished with 11 points. 


Sioux Falls Jefferson 71, Rapid City Stevens 46

SIOUX FALLS — Three players scored in double figures to power Sioux Falls Jefferson to a Class AA boys basketball tourney berth on Saturday. 

Jefferson’s Kaden Year logged 18 points and 10 rebounds. Griffin Wilde added 16 points and four rebounds. Taylen Ashley posted 10 points. Cameron Black scored eight points, while Ethan Koltz had seven points and five rebounds. 

Stevens’ Dayler Segrist posted 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Madinko Hawley logged eight points. Thomas Martian and Kaelem Brooks scored six points apiece. Hayden Gebhart and Caden Dowling scored five points apiece. Nash Sobczak added five points and four rebounds. 


Sioux Falls Washington 71, Huron 43

SIOUX FALLS — Sioux Falls Washington coasted past Huron and secured a Class AA boys basketball tournament berth on Saturday. 

Washington’s Cole Peterson posted 18 points and seven assists. Tryg Auten logged 17 points and five boards. Mandalla Mohamed added nine points and five assists. A.J. Akot posted five points and nine rebounds. Zaharic Sheppard grabbed seven rebounds. 

Huron’s Mason Davis scored nine points on three 3-pointers. C.J. Gainey and Dawsyn Rogers had eight points. Reilyn Zavesky scored six points and grabbed four rebounds, while Blake Ellwein had five points. 


Sioux Falls Lincoln 76, Rapid City Central 49 

SIOUX FALLS — Four players scored in double figures as Sioux Falls Lincoln secured a Class AA boys basketball tournament berth on Saturday. 

Lincoln’s Tate Schafer scored 18 points and hit three 3-pointers. J.T. Rock added 16 points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots. Elliot Whitney tossed in 13 points, handed out six assists and hit four 3-pointers. Jack Hilgenberg added 11 points. Elijah Olson logged eight rebounds and four points. Braxton Mohr had six points and seven rebounds. 

Rapid City Central’s Jet Janvrin and Jon Suarez scored 11 points apiece. Janvrin grabbed six rebounds. Cooper Totten added 10 points and five rebounds. Isaiah Whiting added six points, while Will Paepke posted five rebounds and four points. 


Harrisburg 54, Brandon Valley 52 

BRANDON — Jacoby Mehrman’s game-winning shot with eight seconds left lifted Harrisburg to a Class AA boys basketball tournament berth on Saturday. 

Ethan Determan led Harrisburg with 25 points. 


Sioux Falls Roosevelt 54, Sturgis 40

SIOUX FALLS — Sioux Falls Roosevelt topped Sturgis for a Class AA SoDak 16 boys basketball win on Saturday. 

The Rough Riders will play in the Class AA state tournament on March 16-18 in Rapid City.
