SIOUX FALLS — Ella Boekelheide is a triple crown winner in 2025.

Boekelheide, who had earned the top spot in the 800-meter and 3,200-meter runs earlier in the week, took home the 1,600-meter run to close out an exceptional weekend at the state track and field meet at Howard Wood Field.

“It feels good to get all three,” said Boekelheide. “I knew it would be hard coming in and staying focused the whole weekend, making certain sacrifices to put myself in a good position. It just feels good having it all workout.”

The junior from Northwestern started her weekend winning the 3,200-meter run Friday morning with a season’s best time of 11:38.32. Boekelheide didn’t compete in last year’s 3,200-meter race but clipped Kimball/White Lake’s Autumn Baker by just over a second for a first place finish this year.

Later that day Boekelheide repeated in the 800-meter race with a season’s best time of 2:19.14. Boekelheide said out of all three races, the 800-meter run was the toughest.

“There was a lot of good competition in the 800,” Boekelheide said. “I knew some of those girls’ times didn’t do them justice and I knew that they could run way faster than that. I knew that any of them could pop off and run an amazing time, so I had to really make sure that I was locked in extra for that 800.”

Then on Saturday, Boekelheide ran away with the 1,600-meter run with a season’s best 5:09.35, earning back-to-back championships in the 800 and 1,600-meter runs.

“It feels good to get it back-to-back and keep it going,” said Boekelheide. “You really have to mentally visualize the race. Make sure you have a strategy, make sure you work out every possible situation that could happen. Make sure that you’re, mentally, there and ready for anything.”

Boekelheide also competed in the sprint medley relay for Northwestern, helping the Wildcats take sixth place along with Rachel Melius, Brenna Halvorson and Elexis Kramp.
