Nov. 7 Football Roundup - St. Thomas More downs Clark/Willow Lake, advances to first state championship appearance since 2014

St. Thomas More 50, Clark/Willow Lake 14 

RAPID CITY — St. Thomas More downed Clark/Willow Lake in Class 11B semifinal action on Friday. The Cavaliers will play Elk Point-Jefferson in the Class 11B state championship on Nov. 14.

STM’s Noah Wald tossed passing touchdowns to Broeden Sales, Kain McLeod and Max Speed. McLeod added an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Josh Elder and Grayden Juve added rushing touchdowns for the Cavaliers. Jackson Rusch had an interception return for a touchdown. 

For CWL, Jakob Steen had a touchdown run, while Emmerson Larson hauled in a touchdown reception from Joey Ries.  


Howard 18, Alcester-Hudson 12

ALCESTER — Kolt Becker’s two-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter propelled Howard to a Class 9A semifinal win on Friday. The Tigers will play Wall in the Class 9A state championship on Nov. 14. 

Becker finished with 27 carries for 228 yards and two rushing touchdowns. Owen Feldhaus had a touchdown pass to Becker. Kean Hofer posted seven tackles on defense. Feldhaus added an interception.

For Alcester-Hudson, Darin Dykstra rushed for 96 yards on 15 carries and scored a touchdown. Tommy Walth added 64 yards rushing on 15 carries and a touchdown. Walth passed for 48 yards. Jackson Meyer added 26 yards receiving. Meyer posted eight tackles on defense. 


Dell Rapids St. Mary 22, Faulkton Area 16

DELL RAPIDS — Dell Rapids St. Mary edged Faulkton Area in Class 9B semifinal action on Friday. The Cardinals will play Avon on Nov. 13 in the Class 9B state championship. 

The Cardinals racked up 410 yards, including 329 yards on the ground against the Trojans. Trimmier Hanson racked up 191 yards rushing on 27 carries and scored two touchdowns. Lincoln LeBrun added 17 carries for 122 yards. Hanson added 64 passing yards, while Jaxon Baumberger had a passing touchdown. Logan Bauer had two catches for 35 yards and a touchdown reception. LeBrun had two catches for 46 yards. 

On defense, Gavin Pica posted 7.5 tackles. Bauer had 5.5 tackles and a fumble recovery. Baumberger had two interceptions, 4.5 tackles and one fumble recovery. 

Faulkton Area stats were not reported. 

 

Elk Point-Jefferson 43, Deuel 36

ELK POINT — Elk Point-Jefferson outlasted Deuel in Class 11B semifinal action Friday. The Huskies will face St. Thomas More in the 11B championship on Nov. 14.

EPJ’s Aiden Hammitt rushed seven times for 161 yards and a touchdown, Beau Schmitz added six carries for 31 yards and two touchdowns, Levi Hanson had seven carries for 16 yards and a score while Brody Van Roekel collected two carries for 44 yards and a score as well. Levi Hanson completed one pass to Hammitt for 51 yards as well.

For Deuel, Aidan Siever completed 22-of-41 pass attempts for 185 yards and two touchdowns, Troy Jenson had 13 catches for 88 yards, Oliver Fieber caught seven passes for 76 yards and a touchdown while Braxtin Winter caught an eight-yard touchdown pass. Gavin Kloos rushed 25 times for 117 yards and a touchdown while Sievers added 12 carries for 70 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.


Pierre 28, Huron 13

HURON — Pierre advanced to its ninth consecutive Class 11AA state championship appearance on Friday. The Governors will play Yankton on Nov. 14 in the Class 11AA state championship. 

Pierre’s Jerren Deal and Porter Hunsley scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the win. Sutton Sonnenschein added an interception on defense. 

For Huron, Anderson Porisch and Landon Hulst scored rushing touchdowns.
