ARCADIA, Calif. — Sioux Falls O’Gorman senior Libby Castelli ran the fastest mile run in South Dakota girls prep history at Friday’s Arcadia Invitational in California.

Castelli finished third in the race (4:42.21), a time that is faster than the current state record for the 1,600-meter run held by Yankton’s Ramsey Kavan (4:43.50) in 2005.

The mile run is 9.344 meters (approximately 30.65 feet) longer than the 1,600-meter run.

The future North Carolina runner is off to a quick start this season with several quick times. Castelli has season bests of (:59.86) in the 400-meter run, and (2:17.15) in the 800-meter run.
