Elkton-Lake Benton 32, Castlewood 26

ELKTON — Ryan Krog completed a Hail Mary pass to Carson Griffith as time expired to lift Class 9AA No. 5 Elkton-Lake Benton past Class 9A No. 3 Castlewood on Friday. The Elks captured the Dakota Valley Conference title with the win. 

Krog completed 6 of 13 passes for 126 yards and threw three passing touchdowns. Krog also rushed for 186 yards on 21 carries and scored another score. Krog also returned an interception for a touchdown. Riddick Westley rushed for 51 yards. Griffith hauled in 80 receiving yards on four catches and had two touchdown receptions. Tanner Stein added a receiving touchdown. Griffith had seven tackles and two sacks, while Blake DeVries had seven tackles. 

Castlewood’s Lane Tvedt completed 12 of 23 passes for 301 yards and threw two passing touchdowns. Carson Kirwan rushed for 23 yards and scored two rushing scores. Kirwan hauled in three catches for 122 yards and scored a receiving touchdown. Jackson Schofield had three catches for 78 yards and a receiving touchdown. Adam Heyn and Bryon Laue had eight tackles and one sack apiece.

Gregory 23, Bon Homme 12

GREGORY — Class 9A No. 2 Gregory rushed for 307 yards on its way to a Friday high school football win over Bon Homme. 

Gregory’s Kade Stukel rushed for 155 yards on 20 carries and scored one touchdown. Rylan Peck added 74 rushing yards and one touchdown. Trey Murray logged 88 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. Peck threw for 78 passing yards, while Owen Hansen recorded 38 receiving yards. Murray posted 10 tackles on defense, while Peck had an interception. 

Bon Homme finished with 230 total yards, including 186 rushing yards. 


Winner 34, Mount Vernon/Plankinton 8

MOUNT VERNON — Class 11B No. 1 Winner rushed for 310 yards en route to a Friday high school football win over Class 11B No. 3 Mount Vernon/Plankinton. 

Winner’s Aiden Barfuss rushed for 95 yards on nine carries and scored one rushing touchdown. Jack Peters rushed for 64 yards and had one rushing score. Blake Volmer, Karson Keiser and Stratton Morehart added rushing touchdowns. 

Mount Vernon recorded 188 total yards, including 143 rushing yards. Mount Vernon/Plankinton’s Reed Rus rushed for 74 yards and had a rushing touchdown, while he threw for 45 passing yards. Christopher Mayer and Drew Gerlach added 30 and 29 rushing yards, respectively. Brady Fox had three tackles.

Hanson 45, Colome 14

ALEXANDRIA — Class 9AA No. 3 Hanson racked up 397 total yards en route to a Friday high school football win over Colome. The Beavers rushed for 253 yards. 

Hanson’s Brock Tuttle racked up 124 rushing yards and scored two rushing touchdowns. Hadley Wallace rushed for 119 yards and scored a rushing touchdown. Jayce Slaba completed 4 of 4 passes for 144 yards and threw two passing touchdowns. Slaba also scored a rushing touchdown. Ethan Cheeseman hauled in 85 receiving yards and had a touchdown reception. Jackson Jarding added a receiving touchdown. Tuttle racked up 8.5 tackles and Jarding had an interception on defense. 

Colome finished with 220 total yards. Jonah Musser rushed for 144 yards and scored two touchdowns. Eli Vobr threw for nine yards and rushed for 42 yards. 


Potter County 42, Sunshine Bible Academy 14

MILLER — Potter County used a big first half to earn a win over Sunshine Bible Academy in high school football action Friday. 

Carter Luikens led the Battlers with 161 rushing yards to go with three touchdowns. Alex Tanner added 40 yards rushing for Potter County. Landon Larson completed five passes for 83 yards for the Battlers with Chance Smith having a reception for 27 yards. 

Daniel Gerbracht and Parker Jones each scored touchdowns for Sunshine Bible Academy with Gerbracht leading the way with 32-yards rushing. Anthony Mitchell and Jimmy Burma led the Sunshine Bible defense with 5 tackles apiece. 


Herreid/Selby Area 50, Britton-Hecla 0

ABERDEEN — Class 9B No. 1 Herreid/Selby Area racked up 44 first-half points on its way to picking up a win over Britton-Hecla in high school football action Friday. 

Brenden Begeman finished the night with 296 yards rushing to go with four touchdowns. Tray Hettick added 74 yards rushing to go along with 83 yards passing and a touchdown pass to Cole Zabel. 

BoDell Davidson led Britton-Hecla with 50 yards rushing and 57 yards of passing with three completions. Tucker Mertens led the Braves defense with nine tackles. 


Ipswich 74, North Central 22

IPSWICH — Ipswich raced past North Central for a high school football win on Friday.

Ipswich’s Tyler Hettich rushed for 159 yards on nine carries and five touchdowns. Ian Beyers completed nine of 11 passes for 154 yards and two touchdown passes. Trevor Heinz and Chet Peterson each had one touchdown reception. Carter Geditz led with 61 receiving yards.

North Central’s Landon Wolf had two rushing touchdowns, while Spencer Buechler added one touchdown run.  

Lyman 60, Lemmon/McIntosh 7

PRESHO — Class 9A No. 4 Lyman used a punishing ground game to earn a win over Lemmon/McIntosh on Friday evening. 

Tance Wagner led the attack for the Raiders with 168 yards and two touchdowns. Kellen Griffith added 74 yards and two scores while Teagan Gourneau added a pair of rushing touchdowns for Lyman. Cooper Long led Lyman with 84 yards receiving including catching a touchdown pass from Gourneau. 

Lemmon/McIntosh was led by Sawyer Thompson who completed nine passes for 142 yards and a touchdown. Hiroshi Picklesimer led the Cowboys with two receptions for 62 yards. 

 

Sully Buttes 32, Corsica-Stickney 14

ONIDA — Class 9B No. 4 Sully Buttes racked up 382 total yards en route to a high school win over Class 9B No. 3 Corsica-Stickney on Friday. The Chargers rushed for 264 yards.

Sully Buttes’ Landon Hepker completed 8 of 15 passes for 118 yards and had two passing touchdowns. Hepker added 112 rushing yards on 13 carries and added a rushing touchdown. Thomas Farries rushed for 100 yards on 15 carries and had a rushing score. Lucas Arcoren had a rushing touchdown. Logan Severson posted 10 tackles. 

Corsica-Stickney’s Shad Bosma completed 15 of 24 passes for 147 yards and threw a passing touchdown. Waylon Bolle racked up 145 rushing yards on 13 carries and scored a rushing touchdown. Carter Wright hauled in 108 receiving yards and had a touchdown reception. Tate Talsma recorded nine tackles.


Howard 45, Chester Area 7

CHESTER — Class 9AA No. 1 Howard piled up 576 total yards in a Friday high school football win over Chester Area. The Tigers rushed for 351 yards and passed for 225 yards. 

Howard’s Taiden Hoyer completed 5 of 5 passes for 158 yards and threw three passing touchdowns. Griffin Clubb hauled in 115 receiving yards and had a receiving touchdown. Luke Koespell added 71 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. Clubb racked up 150 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. Hoyer, Will Maier and Karsyn Feldhaus had rushing touchdowns. Koepsell led the Tigers with five tackles, one sack and one interception. Kaden Hofer also posted five tackles. 

Chester Area racked up 244 total yards, including 188 rushing yards. Layke Wold threw for 54 yards. Wold added 64 rushing yards on 11 carries. Jovi Wolf hauled in 43 receiving yards. Alfred Frankenhoff scored a 95-yard rushing touchdown. Garret Hansen recorded 8.5 tackles. 


Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy 36, Florence/Henry 14

FREEMAN — Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy piled up 417 yards of total offense to pick up a high school football win over Florence/Henry on Friday.

Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy was led by Riley Tschetter with 244 passing yards and four touchdown passes. Maddox Kihne led with 135 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions. Kihne also had 70 yards rushing and threw a touchdown pass. Evan Scharberg and Karter Weber each had one touchdown reception.

Florence/Henry was led by Tegan Sumner with 95 yards passing, while also rushing for 36 yards and one touchdown run. Mehki Keller added an 81-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. 


Miller/Highmore-Harrold 41, Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian 16

MILLER — Miller/Highmore-Harrold piled up 309 total yards in a Friday high school football win over Tripp-Delmont/Armour/Andes Central/Dakota Christian.

Trey Knox led the Rustlers with 108 passing yards and threw three passing touchdowns. Knox also rushed for 77 yards on 12 carries. Gunner Brueggeman and Coby Aasby hauled in touchdown receptions. Tate Hoffman added a passing touchdown, while he also hauled in two touchdown receptions. Tucker McCauley had 6.5 tackles, while Mason Knox had an interception on defense.

Garth Maas rushed for 40 yards in the loss, while Hunter Loeffler had 20 rushing yards. Payton Westendorf had 8.5 tackles on defense and Jeff Schnabel had an interception.


Dell Rapids St. Mary 36, Estelline-Hendricks 18

ESTELLINE — Dell Rapids St. Mary rushed for 448 yards to earn a win over Estelline-Hendricks in high school football Friday. Nic Gaspar led the way with 198 yards on the ground to lead the Cardinals. CJ Smith added 141 yards rushing while Tate Bunkers also eclipsed the century mark with 104 yards rushing. Smith completed five passes for 101 yards and a touchdown pass. 

Joseph McAninch led Estelline-Hendricks with 123 yards rushing and one touchdown. Mattix Hausman finished with 49 yards and two touchdowns for the Redhawks. 

Wolsey-Wessington 34, Avon 16

AVON — Wolsey-Wessington erupted for 451 total yards en route to a Friday high school football win over Avon. 

Wolsey-Wessington’s Blaze Herdman completed 14 of 22 passes for 333 yards and threw three passing touchdowns. Tate French hauled in five catches for 162 yards and one receiving touchdown. Moshe Richmond had 86 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. Joey Hoverson also had a touchdown reception. Herdman and Keegan Haider added rushing touchdowns. Austin Wyant rushed for 35 yards. Richmond recorded seven tackles, while Chris Wuestewald had 6.5 tackles and a sack. 

Avon finished with 237 total yards, including 229 rushing yards. Avon’s Paxton Bierema rushed for 82 yards on six carries and scored a rushing score. Cade Faulkner rushed for 64 yards, while Brady Bierema had 55 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. Paxton Bierema had 8.5 tackles. 


Kadoka Area 56, New Underwood 6

NEW UNDERWOOD — Kadoka Area recorded 369 total yards as it ran past New Underwood in Friday high school football action. 

Gus Stout rushed for 104 yards on eight carries and scored two rushing touchdowns. Tyus Williams and Reece Ohrtman both rushed for 65 yards and two rushing scores apiece. Gabriel Fauske added a rushing touchdown. 

New Underwood stats were not reported.


Burke 33, Gayville-Volin 22

GAYVILLE — Burke outscored Gayville-Volin 13-8 in the fourth quarter to secure a Friday high school football victory. 

Burke’s Sawyer Tietgen rushed for 75 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns. Gentry Bartling added 22 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Reed Benter threw for 20 yards. Breven Bolander posted seven tackles, while Bartling had 6.5 tackles and one interception on defense. 

Gayville-Volin’s Spencer Karstens completed 14 of 24 passes for 233 yards and threw two passing touchdowns. Ben Rumsey rushed for 24 yards and a rushing score. Hunter Wuebben hauled in 155 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns. Ben Rumsey tacked up 13 tackles. 


Philip 50, White River 0

WHITE RIVER — Philip blanked White River in a Friday high school football game. 

Ryker Peterson powered the Scotties with 198 rushing yards on 10 carries and scored five touchdowns. Jess Jones led the Scotties with 118 passing yards and two passing touchdowns. Payton Terkildsen rushed for 95 yards on nine carries. Samuel Hand added a touchdown reception. 

No White River stats were reported.

 

Alcester-Hudson 36, Irene-Wakonda 14

ALCESTER — Class 9A No. 5 Alcester-Hudson racked up 467 total yards to race past Irene-Wakonda for a high school football win on Friday.

Alcester-Hudson’s Evan Brown rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns. Mateo Kleinhans rushed for 76 yards, while passing for 64 yards and one touchdown. Jose Topete-Lopez rushed for 72 yards and one touchdown. Dominic Van Egdom had 59 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Owen Bovill added one rushing touchdown.

Irene-Wakonda’s Dashel Spurrell passed for 133 yards and one touchdown pass, while rushing for 36 yards. Chase Dahlerup rushed for 85 yards and one touchdown, while Jens Hansen added a touchdown reception. 


Leola/Frederick Area 56, Faulkton Area 34

LEOLA — Leola/Frederick rolled up 397 total yards in a Friday high school football win over Faulkton Area. 

Leola/Frederick Area’s Jericho King racked up 123 rushing yards on 12 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns. Hans Lapka rushed for 102 yards on 10 carries. Brayden Sumption rushed for two touchdowns, while he passed for 68 yards and threw two passing touchdowns. King and McKinley Kosters both hauled in touchdown receptions. Levi Little posted 4.5 tackles.

Faulkton Area’s Layne Cotton completed 6 of 14 passes for 162 yards and threw two touchdown passes. Garrett Cramer rushed for 85 yards and scored a rushing touchdown. Cotton added one rushing touchdown. Roman DiMaria hauled in 145 receiving yards and two touchdown receptions. DiMaria recorded 5.5 tackles. 


Tri-Valley 48, Wagner 6

COLTON — Tri-Valley raced past Wagner for a high school football win on Friday.

Tri-Valley’s Eli McFarland rushed for 61 yards and three touchdowns, while passing for 67 yards and one touchdown. Colby Carruthers rushed for 84 yards and one touchdown, while Landyn Reiser and Brody Dybvig each had one rushing touchdown. Lawson Loiseau added one receiving touchdown.

Wagner’s Gannon Knebel passed for 100 yards, while rushing for one touchdown. Riley Roberts added 108 yards receiving.

 

Sioux Valley 29, Flandreau 13

FLANDREAU — Sioux Valley scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to pull away from Flandreau for a high school football win on Friday.

Sioux Valley’s Lane Liebsch rushed for 85 yards and one touchdown, while Donovan Rose added 81 yards rushing and one touchdown. Boden Schiller returned a blocked punt for a touchdown, while Brock Christopherson added one touchdown run. Schiller also had 12 tackles defensively, while Christopherson added nine tackles.

Flandreau’s Paul Parsley passed for 154 yards and one touchdown to Lane Johanson. Ethan Hoffman had 80 yards rushing and one touchdown, while Kolby Peters added 118 yards receiving. Hoffman had 13 tackles on defense, while Ben Ballard added 10 tackles.

Vermillion 28, Madison 20

VERMILLION — Vermillion scored twice in the final quarter to hold off Madison 28-20 in high school football action Friday at the Dakota Dome. 

The Tanagers were led by quarterback Hayden Christopherson who finished with 276 yards and three touchdown passes. Trillion Sorrell, Zoan Robinson and Connor Larson combined for 20 catches and 241 yards with each catching a touchdown pass. Leading 21-20, Conner Peterson intercepted a Madison pass which he returned for a score to seal the win for Vermillion. 

Madison’s Ben Brooks finished with 197 yards rushing and one rushing touchdown. The Madison signal caller added a touchdown pass when he found Andrew Comes with a scoring strike. 

Pierre 35, Tea Area 30

PIERRE — Class 11AA No. 1 Pierre Governors undefeated with two fourth quarter touchdowns and earned a win over Class 11AA No. 2 Tea Area on Friday night. 

Lincoln Kienholz led Pierre with 205 rushing yards and two touchdowns including a 53-yard scamper in the final quarter. Kienholz added 256 yards of passing that included three touchdown passes. Brecken Krueger and Jayden Wiebe each caught touchdown passes for Pierre while Gavin Stotts led the defense with 17 tackles. 

For Tea Area Keegan DeYoung and Chase Van Tol combined for 128 yards rushing with each scoring a rushing touchdown. Maddix Slykhuis threw for 148 yards and two touchdowns. Van Tol and Parker Mulder each caught a touchdown pass while Matt Halbur led the Tea Area defense with six tackles and a sack.
