Philip boys and Lemmon girls win cross-country team titles at Philip Invitational
The Philip boys claimed the top-eight individual places and scored a perfect six points to easily win Saturday's Philip Invitational cross country meet.

PHILIP — The regular season for South Dakota cross-country came to an end at Saturday’s Philip Invitational at the Lake Waggoner Golf Course. The Philip boys and Lemmon girls captured team titles at Saturday’s race. 

The home fans had plenty to cheer about as Philip, the defending Class B state champions, claimed the top-eight finishers in the boys race. The Scotties won the boys team title with a perfect score of six, ahead of Lemmon (22) and White River (33). New Underwood (40) and Kadoka Area (54) rounded out the top-five teams. 

The Lemmon girls were equally impressive Saturday claiming four of the top-five finishers. Lemmon posted a score of 7, just ahead of Jones County (17). 

In the boys race Philip’s Wakely Burns covered the 5,000-meter course in 16 minutes and 47.06 seconds, ahead of Philip teammates Trey Larson (17:02) and Asher Peterson (17:10). Philip sophomores Baylor Burns (17:31) and Jack Peterson (17:54) rounded out the top-five individual performers. 

Lemmon’s Karly Riley won the girls race on the 5,000-meter course with a time of 20:56, ahead of teammate Natalie Dreiske (21:42) and Jones County’s BreAna Aske (22:06). Lemmon’s Chei Odenbach (22:21) and Brynn Odenbach (22:57) rounded out Saturday’s top-five individuals.
